We have recently reviewed cancellation and wait time fees based on your feedback.
Cancellation Fees
On 31 October 2022, we increased cancellation fees for your city. Cancellation fees are applied in certain situations where either the rider or the driver initiates a trip cancellation. For example:
When you are on your way to the rider’s pickup location, and your rider cancels after a few minutes (rider-initiated cancellation), or
When you arrive at the pickup location and the rider doesn’t show up after you wait for a long time and then you choose to cancel (driver-initiated cancellation).
Wait Time Fees
We have reviewed wait time fees based on your feedback. On 21 November 2022, we introduced wait time fees at stops for your city, which means you’ll earn extra when your rider enters a stop and you need to wait longer than 3 minutes for your passenger on UberX, Pet, XL and 4 minutes on Comfort.
Both Cancellation and Wait time fee amounts will differ by city and vehicle option – you can find details below. The Cancellation Fee and Wait Time Fee Policy are both detailed in the ‘Help’ section within your Uber app.
Cancellation Fee Thresholds
- London
From 16 November 2023, in London, your trip will no longer be automatically cancelled after 8 minutes (for UberX as an example), and you can decide if you want to wait a little longer or cancel the trip. Details will vary by product.

The fee will be waived for a small subset of cancellations if your Driver exceeds the initial estimated time of arrival (ETA) by 5 minutes, if your Driver hasn’t made any progress towards your location or if your Driver is driving further away from the pick-up location. In those instances, you will be waived for the cancellation fee and Drivers won’t be eligible to receive the cancellation fee.
