The Uber app works right across Cairns and the surrounding areas, stretching to Port Douglas in the north, Innisfail in the south and inland to Atherton. You can check the full service area here.
You are welcome to go online anywhere within the service area, however, there are some areas that are typically busier than others. To increase your chance of receiving regular trip requests we suggest that you go online in the busier areas.
In and around the CBD and The Esplanade is generally the best area to situate yourself to increase your chance of receiving trip requests. We recommend heading to where locals and tourists are often located; around the Esplanade, Ferry Terminal, JCU campus, shopping centers, restaurants, bars and the Airport.
Driver-partners based in Cairns are also able to drive in any other Queensland city where Uber operates; including Townsville, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. You can simply go online as you normally would in your home city.
Driver-partners are able to go online 24/7 however, most driver-partners can increase their fares by driving during busier times, particularly during peak hours and on weekends.
In Cairns, trips request occur right across the week, however, the busiest times are typically on the weekends. In particular between 5 pm - 2 am on Friday and Saturday nights.
We recommend keeping up to date with local events as often when there are locals and tourists heading to or from an event ride requests will be in high demand. Some major events will be communicated through your Driver App or in newsletters, so be sure to keep an eye out!
