Airport regulations for drivers

Per airport regulations, drivers must adhere to the terms below and additional rules here. Failure to do so may result in the receipt of a citation or even restriction of access to airport trips. Uber will not pay for any citations that drivers may incur.

  • When on airport property, the Driver app must be open at all times (drivers must not go offline until exiting the airport area).
  • There’s a special first vehicle in is the first one out (FIFO) system at Boston Logan International Airport. The FIFO system only works within the designated, geofenced area and drivers waiting elsewhere will not receive trip requests through the Driver app.
  • The Uber vehicle decal (trade dress) must always be displayed on the front passenger windshield and rear passenger windshield facing outward. Drivers can obtain this Uber decal at their local Greenlight Hub or fill out this form to receive one by mail.
  • Before going online or picking up a rider, have your DPU background check saved on your phone. Contact the TNC Division if you cannot find it. Include your license number (ex. S12345678) and ask for an electronic copy of your certificate.

Pickups at the airport

Waiting for requests

There’s a first-in-first-out (FIFO) queue. This means that, in order to receive a trip request, you can enter the designated waiting area, located within a FIFO zone. You should then be placed in a virtual queue where the first driver to enter should be the first to receive a trip request.

Based on the operating agreement with the airport, the waiting area is located near the rental car center (see map below).

Some things to know about FIFO queues

  • Proximity to the terminal within the FIFO zone does not create an advantage for drivers or move you closer to the top of the queue
  • You can lose your place in line if:
    • You go offline on your Driver app
    • You drive outside the FIFO zone
    • You do not accept multiple incoming trip requests in a row
    • You cancel multiple rides (if the rider cancels, you will remain at the top of the queue)

Picking up your rider

Once you accept a trip request, the pickup locations at BOS are located at the places displayed below (see map below).

Cancellations and request time

Rider cancellations at the airport

If a rider cancels a request at the airport, you should keep your place in line at the waiting lot. If this happens when you’re on your way to pick up a rider, you can return to the waiting lot immediately to avoid losing your place in line.

Driver cancellations at the airport

Driver trip cancellations can take away from the experience that both riders and drivers expect. Drivers who improperly use the app and intentionally disrupt the service, including excessively canceling rides or asking riders to cancel rides, may lose the ability to receive trip requests to and from the airport through the Driver app.

Estimated time to request

You’ll see a bar at the top of your Driver app when you enter the waiting lot at Logan Airport. This should give you an idea of how long you’ll be waiting for a request.

Waiting lot and pickup locations

The airport has set aside a dedicated waiting lot for a request at the airport and requires drivers to be in this waiting lot in order to receive requests. You can click here for a more detailed map and instructions on how to drive there. As a reminder, all pickups have moved to the Central Parking garages as shown on the map at right.

Accessibility

Accessible Ride App Pick Ups

  • Per Massport TNC Rules & Regulations, if a Rider selects “Accessible Ride App Pick Up” as their pick up point or if your rider calls, messages, or informs you of a the need for a curbside pickup due to an accessibility need, drivers are permitted to pick up the rider curbside at the terminals. Please follow the app to the ARRIVALS lower level to pick up your rider with an accessibility need from the following locations on the Arrivals level:

  • Terminal A: Door A102

  • Terminal B: Door B113 or B105

  • Terminal C: Door C106

  • Terminal E: Door E104

Accessible Ride App Drop Offs

  • Drop offs are only permitted curbside on departures if a rider has selected “Accessibility” in the app or if your rider calls, messages, or informs you of a the need for a curbside drop off due to an accessibility need.

  • Massport’s rules prohibit drivers from dropping off or picking up riders curbside of any terminal, with the exception of riders with accessibility needs. If your rider informs you of an accessibility need, you are allowed to pick up or drop off your passenger at the terminal curbside.
