Uber Black Montreal

Uber Black matches riders with top-rated professional drivers with luxury vehicles for a higher price. Whether for a business meeting or a special night out, riders rely on Uber Black for a premium experience.

Uber Black requirements

Drivers using Uber Black are professional limousine drivers. Drivers must provide the same documents and pass the same criminal record and judicial matters check as rideshare drivers in the province of Quebec, in addition to providing documents that prove their professional limousine status.

Currently, we are only onboarding drivers with Uber Black in the Greater Montreal Area.

Instructions for drivers

1. Signup online

Tell us a little about yourself and your car by creating a driver profile.

2. Vehicle requirements

Vehicles must be a qualifying Uber Black and/or Uber Black SUV vehicle, have a black exterior with black leather or vegan leather interior. In order to provide Black or SUV trips, your vehicle must be 6 years old or newer. In addition to Black or SUV trips, you will also be eligible for other products such as Uber Premier, XL, Uber Comfort Electric, Uber Comfort, and UberX, depending on the age and characteristics of your vehicle.

3. Document requirements

The following are specific requirements for drivers on Uber Black that are in addition to the standard requirements for Quebec ridesharing drivers.

  • Authorised Driver’s Permit: Valid authorized driver’s permit. Please contact the SAAQ if you would like to obtain the Authorized Driver’s Permit. When taking the picture, ensure that it is not blurry and that all four corners are visible. Note this is separate from the yellow En Service sticker.
  • Commercial Vehicle Insurance: A valid commercial insurance policy is required for Uber Black. Your name or the name of your limousine brokerage or limousine service company must be visible on the insurance document. When taking the picture, ensure that it is not blurry and that all four corners are visible.
  • Photo of Vehicle: Vehicle must have black exterior with black leather or vegan leather interior.

In addition to the above Uber Black specific requirements, all ridesharing drivers must also go through the following standard requirements.

  • Quebec driver's licence: A Quebec driver's licence of class 5 or lower is required. Probationary or restricted licences are not accepted and the licence must indicate an age of 21 years or older. Make sure to avoid using flash so that your information is clear and readable.
  • Vehicle registration: Vehicle must be registered in Quebec, must have 4 doors and cannot be rebuilt or salvaged. You are not required to own the vehicle. When taking the picture, ensure that it is not blurry and that all four corners are visible.

  • Training certificate: Every driver must pass a 15-hour online training offered by one of the two government-approved training centers.

  • Proof of Work Eligibility: Birth certificate, Citizenship card, Passport, Permanent Resident (PR) card, Work permit, Social Insurance Number card or letter, Study permit (if it declares the ability to work off-campus unrelated to program of study), Certificate of Indian Status, Canadian Forces Identification Card, Nexus card. Please submit a photo or the original document. Scanned copies are not accepted. Make sure to avoid using flash so that your information is clear and readable.

    • If you are uploading a work permit extension letter, upload the extension letter and your work permit in the same photo
    • If you are waiting for your renewed PR card, upload a photo of your current PR card and PR card extension letter
  • Tax registration number (GST, QST, SRS): All drivers must have GST, QST, and SRS numbers to drive on the platform. The tax numbers must be requested through Revenue Quebec.

4. Background screening

Drivers on Uber Black in Montreal must pass a criminal record and judicial matters check. The motor vehicle record check is already completed by the SAAQ when you obtain your Authorized Driver’s Permit.

Uber has partnered with ISB to enable you to complete your check online. Once you've uploaded your driver's license, ISB will email you with the next steps on the background check.

5. Vehicle inspection

Mechanical Inspection Exemption Eligibility

  • Vehicles that have driven less than 80,000 km and are less than 4 years old do not require a mechanical inspection.

Mechanical Inspection requirement

  • Vehicles that have driven more than 80,000 km and/or are 4 years or older require a vehicle inspection every 60,000 km or 12 months after the previous inspection, whichever comes first. Vehicles that are 8 years or older will require a mechanical inspection every 6 months.

Take a photo of your Certificat de vérification mécanique and upload it to your Uber account. When taking the picture, ensure that it is not blurry and that all four corners are visible.

6. Rating and trip requirements

To be able to continue to drive with Uber Black, drivers will need to maintain a 4.75 rating based on the last 500 trips. If your rating falls below 4.75, it will be reassessed after your next 50 trips.

Missing Requirements for Uber Black

If you are missing a limousine licence or limo plate but would still like to take trips with Uber, please contact online support or book an appointment at the nearest Greenlight Hub to sign up for a standard ridesharing account. You may still be able to take trips with a premium option such as Uber Premier or Premier SUV, even if you don’t meet the conditions for Uber Black.

Drive when you want

When you’re online, you can choose to receive only Uber Black trip requests. Alternatively, you can also choose to receive requests from other products. Based on different factors, drivers on Uber Black may also be able to receive requests for other options such as Uber Premier, UberX, Uber XL, Uber Green, Uber Comfort, and more. These options can be configured in the Preferences section of the Driver App.
