It’s National Tequila Day, and to spread the spirit around, we’ve teamed up with our good friend at Hyatt Regency Dallas to introduce the man behind the bar—Michael Holguin.
As a veteran tapster and mixologist for Monduel’s, the hotel’s modern in-house bar (adjoined to the iconic Reunion Tower), Michael is serving up some deliciously festive recommendations to make this Tequila Day an enjoyable one. Stay the night—book a city-view room—then make your way to Hyatt Regency’s lobby where you’ll find a beautiful atrium of generous natural light, casual seating, and a sprawling Texas lone star. We’ll meet you at the bar.
Celebrate National Tequila Day at Monduel’s
What’s your specialty, Michael?—involving tequila, of course.
We currently feature a very refreshing Raspberry ‘Rita made with Ambhar Tequila, Chambord, Grand Marnier, and a splash of cranberry juice. It’s the perfect selection for summer. And stay tuned, we’ll be featuring a new and exciting cocktail made with the one and only Ambhar Tequila, the official tequila of the Dallas Cowboys!
If feeling a little peckish, what should guests order to go along with their Raspberry ‘Rita?
We recently launched our new menu and it’s full of excellent selections. Our crowd-pleaser is the nachos topped with house-made pico de gallo, sour cream, jalapeños, black beans, and chipotle aioli. Guests have a choice between al pastor chicken, brisket, or both, for those truly up to the challenge! I would recommend pairing the nachos with our delicious Jalapeño Margarita, which is jam-packed with Tanteo Jalapeño Tequila, fresh jalapeño, and triple sec.
What’s the perfect Texas Margarita? Recipe, please!
For those who like something a little sweeter, this is the recipe for you. Fill a shaker with ice, then add the following ingredients:
- 1 ¼ oz Sauza Gold Tequila
- ½ oz Midori Sour
- ¼ oz Grand Marnier
- 1 oz sweet & sour
- 1 oz pineapple juice
- lime wedge to garnish
Garnish rim of glass with sugar or salt. Make sure to shake all ingredients thoroughly to achieve ultimate deliciousness. Cocktail is best served in traditional margarita glass or highball.
That sounds absolutely delicious, and we can’t wait to test it out. Tell us, Michael—how long have you been in Dallas, and what’s your favorite hangout when you’re not manning the bar?
I moved to Dallas in 2012. My favorite place to hang out would be Anvil Pub on Elm Street—very relaxed atmosphere, good scene, and great bartenders.
It takes a good bartender to spot one. The Bloody Mary, one of the headliners on their brunch menu, is fantastic—especially after a night out with friends in Deep Ellum.
Michael, thanks for taking the time to share some perfect drink recommendations and recipes for National Tequila Day, and for walking through some delicious-sounding menu items to try at Monduel’s. We’re ready to check-in. See you at Hyatt Regency Dallas.
