Reliable trips keep your riders coming back to the Uber app. Over the last year, we’ve been piloting a new program called Advantage Mode, which rewards highly rated drivers who cancel less and get riders where they need to go safely.

We’re now expanding this program to select cities during the week of June 22nd:

Bakersfield, CA
Fresno, CA
Inland Empire, CA
Palm Springs, CA
Sacramento, CA
San Diego, CA
Santa Barbara, CA

City list subject to change. Check back for updates. Advantage Mode operates slightly differently in other cities. Read more about those cities here.

Frequently asked questions about Advantage Mode and Standard Mode

  • Advantage Mode is designed to reward highly rated drivers who cancel rides less frequently and ensure riders get to their destinations safely. Drivers in Advantage Mode enjoy several benefits, including:

    • More Exclusive ride requests: You'll receive more Exclusive ride requests for eligible ride types than drivers in Standard Mode.
    • +5% earnings perk: Earn an additional 5% per trip on UberX and other non-premium ride types, including Trip Radar matches. This perk does not apply to delivery trips (e.g., Uber Eats, Uber Connect), Hourly, UberX Share, Uber Black, Uber Black SUV, Uber Premier, Uber Premier SUV, Uber WAV, or Uber Reserve trips.
    • Priority for Trip Radar matching at airports: Enjoy priority for Trip Radar matching at airports compared to Standard Mode drivers.
  • For qualifying trips in Advantage Mode, the +5% earnings perk is added to your total trip earnings. However, some parts of your earnings are excluded from this calculation, such as:
    • Quest promotions
    • Tips
    • Wait time fees
    • Cancellation fees
    • Tolls
    • Other third-party fees and operational expenses

  • In Standard Mode, you’ll get more trip requests through Trip Radar. You’ll receive fewer Exclusive ride requests compared to Advantage Mode drivers, you won’t earn the +5% earnings perk, or be prioritized for Trip Radar matching at airports.

  • When Advantage Mode is live, you can track your current mode in the app. There’s a tracker card that displays your current mode, and you’ll receive a notification if your mode changes. To view your driver stats and see if you qualify for Advantage Mode, go to the menu in the Driver app and tap on your profile picture.

  • Your mode is based on your stats, including your cancellation rate, star rating, and Driving Insights score. To qualify for Advantage Mode, you need to meet the following criteria:

    • Cancellation rate: 8% or lower
    • Star rating: 4.85 or higher
    • Driving Insights score: 75 or more

If you meet these criteria, you’ll automatically be placed in Advantage Mode. If you don’t, you’ll be in Standard Mode.

  • Your driving mode does not impact your Uber Eats delivery trips. The +5% Advantage Mode perk does not apply to delivery trips, and being in Advantage Mode does not result in more Exclusive delivery requests. Similarly, being in Standard Mode does not reduce your Exclusive delivery requests. However, your delivery trips are included in the calculation of your cancellation rate.

  • Advantage Mode and Standard Mode are only available in select markets. If you're online in a city where this program is not live, the modes will not be active.

Driving Insights

You need a Driving Insights score of 75 or more to qualify for Advantage Mode.

Powered by Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), experts in safe driving analytics, the new Driving Insights dashboard provides you with useful information about your driving, including an overall score and how it compares to other drivers in your area. This information can help you identify areas in which you may want to improve your driving.

Available in select cities. Terms apply. Uber reserves the right to change or terminate this program at any time.

¹Available only to drivers taking eligible non-premium rides in Advantage Mode. Commute, delivery trips (such as Uber Eats and Uber Connect), Hourly, Taxi, Uber Black, Uber Black SUV, Uber Premier, Uber Premier SUV, and Uber Reserve trips are not eligible for 5% additional Advantage Mode earnings. The 5% additional Advantage Mode earnings is calculated on a per-trip basis and certain earnings such as Quest promotions, tips, wait time fees, cancel fees, tolls, and other third-party fees and operational expenses as stated on your receipt are not included in the calculation. Advantage Mode earnings will be included in the calculation of any additional earnings to be provided under any applicable minimum earnings guarantee. Uber does not guarantee drivers will experience higher earnings than earnings received prior to the launch of Advantage Mode. Additional earnings while in Advantage Mode will be shown as a separate payout on the trip receipt and weekly earnings statement and is in comparison to eligible earnings that a driver in Standard Mode would earn for the same trip.
