December is here, and with it comes holiday parties, Christmas lights, hot chocolate, hot toddies, shopping, and general merriment. As we roll into the first weekend of the month, let’s celebrate the season with some holiday/winter-appropriate activities. If the chilly weather is deterring your motivation to get out of the house—remember, you can always get a warm, comfortable ride with Uber.

Take a Stroll | Fifth Avenue

‘Tis the season for magical window displays and sparkling lights shows. Strolling along Fifth Avenue between Rockefeller Center and Central Park is quite possibly the best way to immerse yourself in New York Christmastime. Catch Saks Fifth Avenue’s light show and take the time to oooh and ahhh at Bergdorf’s impressive window arrangements. As touristy as all this sounds—it’s worth it. Once you’re done window gazing and maneuvering through the tourists, treat yourself to a body-warming Manhattan at one of the city’s classic watering holes like King Cole Bar or The Plaza’s Rose Club.

Find a Fireplace | Multiple Locations

There are few things as comforting as a cozy spot by the fire, hot toddy in hand. Since most of us living in New York apartments don’t have working fireplaces, we must explore the urban wild and seek them out. The good news is that there are quite a few bars and restaurants that you can go to for a proper fireplace moment. This weekend, escape the chill and cozy up with a cocktail at Clover Club, a stout at Spritzenhaus, or a winter lager at Shoolbred’s (just to name a few). If the fire is warm and the outside air is cold, feel free to linger for a another round—we’ve got you covered with a safe ride home.

To (Holiday) Market, To (Holiday) Market | Union Square, Columbus Circle, & Others

It’s that time of year again—when crafts, art, jewelry, and food stands pop up around the city to spread holiday cheer. Whether you’re on a mission for a stocking stuffer, or prefer just browsing, swing by one of the city’s festive Holiday Markets this weekend. Even if you’re not in the mood to shop, a quick pit-stop at Doughnuttery or Milk Bar (both at the Union Square Holiday Market) are well worth a walk-through.

Lace Up Your Skates | Central Park, Seaport, Bryant Park, & Others

Take a spin around the rink—any of them. Head uptown to Central Park or downtown to the Seaport and throw on your skates (or rent them). Sure, you’re just going around and around in circles, but it still makes for a merry afternoon or evening.

Enjoy your weekend!
