From studying to internships, the demands on a full-time student’s time are never-ending. For Colby, a Texas A&M senior, school is just one of his many commitments. In addition to classes this fall, he will be interning with Rudder High School’s football and basketball teams and driving as an Uber partner. Most important to Colby, however, are his roles as a husband to wife Destiny and father to their two children.
Before Uber, Colby often worked from 11pm until class the next morning as a night auditor at a local hotel. His schedule became much more manageable when he began driving as an Uber partner, which allows him to support his family while he and his wife pursue their educations. The flexibility to set his own schedule helps him to balance his studies with family time. This means he can make more memories with his wife, two-year-old son Peyton, and three-month-old daughter Ever.
“It’s great that Uber is flexible. If I have a research paper, I can work on that one day and drive a bit more the next. I couldn’t do that at other jobs.”
Colby is a tried and true Texan. He grew up in a small town near Temple, but his central Texas roots can be traced even earlier to his grandmother, a Bryan native. Majoring in History with plans to pursue a Masters in Education, Colby hopes to become a history teacher and coach at a local high school.
As a future mentor and educator, it is important to him that the work he does helps others and makes a difference in the community. Driving as an Uber partner brings him satisfaction in knowing that he is making Bryan a safer place. He values the ability to provide rides home to students and others when they are unable to drive themselves. Thanks for all you do to make Bryan a better and safer place, Colby!
