What to do after a car accident

Follow the instructions below about how to report a car accident on the Uber app if you’re a driver, courier, rider, or third party. Uber is committed to everyone's safety.

Drivers

If you are involved in a crash while driving with Uber:

  1. Ensure that everyone involved is OK. If there are injuries or damage, contact the police and paramedics. Be sure to save the police report number if there is one.

  2. Take photos of any damage to the vehicles involved, including your own, and get the contact and insurance information of other involved drivers and riders. We recommend taking photos of the accident location, too, if it’s safe to do so.

  3. Report the crash to Uber. The easiest way to do that is through the Driver app. Go to the Safety Toolkit by tapping the blue shield symbol in the bottom left corner of the map, then choose Report a crash. Report what happened and submit your claim. Or to speak with our trained support staff, choose Safety from the Help section of your app, then select Safety Incident Reporting Line. You can also submit a crash report here. Whichever path you choose, please complete this process as soon as it’s reasonable to do so.

Our claims support team will guide you through the claims process and crash reporting to the insurance coverage provider in your state. There’s no need to report to your personal insurance company, unless you have a relevant endorsement on your personal auto policy.¹

    4. If you need to report a crash immediately, you can also speak directly with a trained agent by going to the Help section of your Driver app and selecting Call Support. If you’re a rider, you can use the Safety Incident Reporting Line, found in the Ride Details screen in the Activity section of the Uber app.
  • Some people who drive with Uber are commercially licensed and insured for limousine, livery, black car, or private hire. Drivers seeking coverage for crashes on these trips should contact their commercial automobile insurance in addition to reporting the crash to Uber here.

  • Coverage may vary depending upon who is at fault. Please complete the applicable incident report form above to start the claims process. During that process, an explanation of coverage will be provided upon submission to an insurance carrier.

  • Please go to uber.com/insurance for an overview of coverage provided by Uber’s insurance.

  • No, it won’t. While your car is being repaired, you can explore available rental options on Uber’s Vehicle Marketplace to get back on the road. You can access the Vehicle Marketplace through the driver Crash Center, which appears in the Driver app if and only if a driver has been in an accident, reports it to Uber, and submits the incident to a US insurance carrier.

    For repairs to your vehicle, as long as you maintain comprehensive and collision coverage on your personal auto insurance, and as long as you were en route or on a trip, the insurance that Uber maintains on behalf of drivers will kick in. If applicable, this insurance goes toward repairs and replacement for your car up to its actual cash value. You must pay a $2,500 deductible before this coverage applies.²

¹The processes discussed here do not apply to commercially insured livery drivers. Commercially insured livery drivers should contact their commercial automobile insurance in addition to reporting the crash to Uber here.

²May apply to damage to your vehicle as long as you have personal insurance that includes comprehensive and collision coverage for that vehicle to cover you while you’re not using the Driver app. Comprehensive and collision coverage on vehicles rented through the Vehicle Marketplace is subject to a $1,000 deductible. If you only maintain liability insurance on your personal vehicle, you will not be eligible for contingent comprehensive and collision coverage.
