Update: Proposed Regulations in Houston
Last week, the Houston City Council took action to delay a vote on updated regulations that would solidify access to increased, modernized and safe transportation options for all Houstonians.
Uber has spent months collaborating with Mayor Parker and the City to develop an ordinance that champions both innovation and safety. However, the taxi industry continues to exert immense pressure on the Council in order to shield the interests of the few.
With the vote held until July 30, regulations unnecessarily remain in limbo. The taxi industry is succeeding while Houstonians’ continued access to innovative and affordable transit remains unclear. Meanwhile, the creation of thousands of jobs and increased economic opportunities for rideshare drivers has been put on hold.
Your City Council has forgotten that Houstonians want and deserve freedom of choice in transportation options.
It’s time they are reminded.
