The Long Weekender: Summer’s Last Hurrah
Photo via NYHabitat.com
It’s not over until it’s over! We still have one more long weekend to soak up summer and all its glory. While Labor Day and its unofficial mark of summer’s end is known to cause some depression and anxiety, it’s also important to remember that just because Labor Day comes and goes, the sunshine may still last through September. So here are some summer must-dos that, if you haven’t already checked off your list, you definitely should—either this weekend or soon after.
This one is obvious: Go to the beach!

Eat All the Summer Snacks

- Lobster from Red Hook Lobster Pound, Luke’s Lobster, or aboard the North River Lobster Co. boat
- Ice cream from any of these fine purveyors: Ample Hills Creamery, OddFellows, Big Gay Ice Cream, at Cobble Hill’s Karloff Restaurant (under-the-radar, but delicious), or walk along Arthur Avenue and get some gelato
- Hot dogs—whether fresh off your friend’s grill, from Crif Dog, or the real deal at Coney Island for the original
- Rosé: Not a snack, but definitely an important part of summer consumption. If you’re in the Hamptons, get some before they run out!
- Corn! Uber over to Cafe Habana, La Esquina, or Habana Outpost to get the best corn on the cobb the city has to offer

LABOR DAY WEEKEND EVENTS:
- All the tennis! The tournament continues through the long weekend with tennis pros competing in the heat for the title of Champion. If you’re heading to the courts, be sure to read up on where you can request an Uber pickup after the match is over.

- Reggae Beach Party: This Sunday is the last Reggae Beach Party on Coney Island. Be prepared for crowds, loud beats, and plenty of dancing in the streets.
- The second-to-last Warm-Up at MoMa PS1: You only have two more weekends to hit up this Long Island City daytime dance party. This week the DJ line-up includes Benji Best, Dam-Funk, DJ Marfox, Tessela, Dutch E Germ, and Avalon Emerson. Find out more here.
- Fool’s Gold Day Off: If you’re looking for more dancing on Labor Day itself, check out the scene at the annual Fool’s Gold Day Off party held at Williamsburg’s outdoor venue, 50 Kent. The day-long music fest features both electronic and hip-hop artists. This year expect to see the likes of Danny Brown, The Lox (Sheek Louch, Styles P, and Jadakiss), and AraabMuzik. Tickets are available here.
No matter where you go, or how you spend your last moments of summer—we hope you make the very best of it. Uber on!
