It’s not over until it’s over! We still have one more long weekend to soak up summer and all its glory. While Labor Day and its unofficial mark of summer’s end is known to cause some depression and anxiety, it’s also important to remember that just because Labor Day comes and goes, the sunshine may still last through September. So here are some summer must-dos that, if you haven’t already checked off your list, you definitely should—either this weekend or soon after.

This one is obvious: Go to the beach!

Everyone deserves some sun rays and salty air. If you haven’t made it to one of NYC’s nearby beaches, or even if you have, now is the time to do it (again). Whether it’s taking an Uber to Rockaway or Jacob Elis, or heading further east to Long Beach, you can play in the waves and lay out in the sand without driving forever to Maine or getting stuck in Hamptons traffic.

Eat All the Summer Snacks

If you’re going to sneak off to the Manhattan Dairy Queen and treat yourself to a Blizzard, you may as well do it while the summer heat can still be your excuse (but really, no judgement—who doesn’t love a Blizzard?). Whether it’s lobster, hamburgers, watermelon, or ice cream, everyone has favorites when it comes to summer foods. Do yourself a favor and seek out all of the best seasonal snacks as soon as possible (before it’s too late)! Here are some of our favorites:

Enjoy a quiet New York

Since many New Yorkers will be out of town for the last big holiday weekend of the summer, it will be the perfect opportunity to enjoy the short-lived peace and quiet before the crowds come flocking back. Hop in an Uber (or walk—depending on where you call home) and head over to the abandoned West Village, where you may even see tumbleweeds rolling down the streets. Take some time to stroll through the beautiful neighborhood, swing by the empty cafes, and then stop in at your favorite restaurant without a reservation. City life without the masses can really be quite lovely.

Last call (almost) for outdoor movies

Most outdoor screenings continue through September, but really, the best time to enjoy an al fresco flick is on a summer night. This weekend you can catch one of the following movies showing at various NYC locations:

Raise the roof

Before the air chills and the days get shorter, head to your favorite rooftop bars to enjoy a drink with a view. We’re big fans of these high-up hangouts, but hey—to each their own. Pick a spot, grab a friend, and go upwards!

LABOR DAY WEEKEND EVENTS:

  • tennisours
    All the tennis!
The tournament continues through the long weekend with tennis pros competing in the heat for the title of Champion. If you’re heading to the courts, be sure to read up on where you can request an Uber pickup after the match is over.
  • Reggae Beach Party: This Sunday is the last Reggae Beach Party on Coney Island. Be prepared for crowds, loud beats, and plenty of dancing in the streets.
  • The second-to-last Warm-Up at MoMa PS1: You only have two more weekends to hit up this Long Island City daytime dance party. This week the DJ line-up includes Benji Best, Dam-Funk, DJ Marfox, Tessela, Dutch E Germ, and Avalon Emerson. Find out more here.
  • Fool’s Gold Day Off: If you’re looking for more dancing on Labor Day itself, check out the scene at the annual Fool’s Gold Day Off party held at Williamsburg’s outdoor venue, 50 Kent. The day-long music fest features both electronic and hip-hop artists. This year expect to see the likes of Danny Brown, The Lox (Sheek Louch, Styles P, and Jadakiss), and AraabMuzik. Tickets are available here.

No matter where you go, or how you spend your last moments of summer—we hope you make the very best of it. Uber on!
