On the Road Again: College Edition

This week, the Uber Nevada Team caught up with UNLV Student Body President Elias Benjelloun to talk about why college students are calling for Uber’s return to Nevada. With almost 30,000 students enrolled, UNLV needs choices in transportation and students need good paying, flexible jobs.

When it comes to transportation options, what are the issues facing UNLV students?
Students are busy. Between school, work, volunteering and our social lives, we have so many places to be and getting there can be a challenge. Many underclassmen go through their first two years of college without a car. Parking is expensive and parking tickets can add up. The bigger issue is also making sure that students have viable transportation options after they go out so students don’t drive after drinking.

Why do you think UNLV students need Uber?
Besides the rides and safety concerns with drinking, students need jobs. By diversifying the economy of Southern Nevada, we can create jobs that will keep students in the State.

Why is partnering with Uber as a driver a good job for a college student?
While in school, students can drive part time and enjoy that flexibility to set their own hours and still go to class. But Uber’s expansion into Nevada also means the potential for opportunities with the company as they hopefully grow in our state.

If you could say one thing to your legislators in Nevada about Uber, what would you say?
Keep an open mind to growing technologies and the economic platforms that they can create.
