On-demand Mariachi: A Success

Last Friday, to celebrate Cuatro De Mayo, Uber SF had three mariachi-mobiles fully stocked with a band, Tres Agaves margarita mix and piñatas. Over the course of 5 hours, there was a total of 42 back-to-back performances. After each fiesta was ended, another was requested in less than 10 seconds. The people of San Francisco proved to have an insatiable desire for mariachi.

We were overwhelmed with demand and can’t help but wonder: did we launch the first ever micro-tour? Should on-demand band management be offered in conjunction with our transportation services?

For now, we’ll just savor our mariachi memories. The sheer absurdity of the bands busting into office buildings, interrupting meetings, serenading lovers on the street and cruising around in black cars created plenty of memorable moments. Here are a few of our favorites…

Most Adorable Performance:

De Colores by Trío Del Sol America

Most festive pug:

Mariachi Tradición Mexicana’s performance at One Union Recording Studios

Most Romantic Request:

The guy who surprised his girlfriend

Best Dance Moves:

These two

And here’s a wrap-up video of some of the performances:

Thank you to everyone who requested and tried to request a mariachi band. If you’d like to relive Cuatro De Mayo, Mariachi Tradición Mexicana performs Fridays and Sundays at Playa Azul Restaurant 3318 Mission Street from 6:30 p.m. – midnight.
