On July 13, Uber General Manager Meghan Joyce spoke at the White House Conference on Aging about Uber’s ongoing efforts to engage the senior community.

Many older people find their mobility options become increasingly limited as they age. They rely more and more on family members to get around, and if they have given up driving, it is difficult to run errands or get to medical appointments.

In South Florida, where there is a significant senior population, senior riders are finding Uber to be an affordable and reliable way to get around.

We are proud to announce that we are working with the Town of Miami Lakes to pilot a Senior Safe Rides program — the first local partnership of its kind in South Florida — to increase mobility options for Miami Lakes seniors. Senior residents participating in the pilot program will receive Uber app demonstrations and a free ride to experience the possibilities of the platform.

We will also be partnering with senior centers and retirement communities across Miami to conduct info sessions and hands-on product demos of the Uber app for residents, along with providing a first ride free. Initial partners include the Dave and Mary Alper Jewish Community Center, which provides recreational, educational, cultural and social activities people of all ages — children to older adults — across South Miami-Dade and Bay Oaks, a historic retirement center in the heart of the city of Miami.
