Keep uberX Moving in Colorado

 
THE SITUATION
Last month, Senate Bill 14-125 to legalize ridesharing passed through the Colorado Senate with resounding, bi-partisan support, 29-6. Originally, SB14-125 would have established a regulatory framework to ensure public safety and peace of mind while preserving ridesharing for all Coloradans. Since then, the Colorado House Transportation Committee has passed several amendments to SB14-125 intended to kill ridesharing in the state of Colorado. In its current form, this legislation will kill uberX in Colorado.
 

WHAT’S AT STAKE
Colorado is a hotbed for innovation, a top destination for Millennials, and a national leader for entrepreneurship because of our culture and elected leaders who embrace progress (and of course our mountains!). Unfortunately, insurance and taxi lobbies have a financial interest in protecting the status-quo, and they are exerting their influence on legislators and regulators to protect their profits by limiting your transportation options.

At every step of the way, uberX has stepped up to the plate to address valid concerns and help craft sensible regulations.

FICTION: uberX rides aren’t insured….
FACT: To eliminate any ambiguity, uberX announced a contingent insurance policy to protect riders up to $1.5MM – the highest level in the country.

FICTION: uberX Drivers aren’t safe….
FACT: Every driver goes through a mandatory county, state and federal criminal background check before a driver can provide a single ride.
– Zero tolerance policy for drug or alcohol use or impairment
– All licenses, registration and personal insurance credentials are inspected
– Drivers must pass a Motor Vehicle Record check

FICTION: The vehicles aren’t safe….
FACT: uberX requires all cars to be model year 2005 or newer, and SB14-125 in its original form ensures that all vehicle inspections are done by certified mechanics.

The stakes couldn’t be higher: Legislators and Governor Hickenlooper need to know that uberX is in real danger of being driven out of our great state. That means thousands of jobs will disappear from Colorado to satisfy the demands of the insurance and taxi lobbies.

THE WAY FORWARD
Gov. Hickenlooper embodies the Colorado spirit — he took an old building downtown and decided to take a chance on brewing beer when no one would even give him a loan. Now LoDo is a model of success for small businesses. Colorado ridesharing drivers should have the same chance to build their small business. Post stories about your uberX love on his facebook page!

The insurance and taxi lobbies will continue to use fear mongering scare tactics to fight uberX. In reality, their arguments are like lobbyists telling Netflix customers that they can only download one video per week in order to protect Blockbuster.
