Driving at Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport (YXE)

Airports can be complicated places, especially for drivers. But knowing the basics, and getting information in advance about your local airport, can help make sure you’re prepared for your first pickup or dropoff.

Airport regulations

Uber at YXE

Riders at YXE can request Uber when leaving the airport. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

  • Ground transportation and airport security staff: Airport rules are as important as traffic rules. Airports expect Drivers to follow the instructions of the airport staff.

  • Trade dress: The Uber vehicle decal (trade dress) must always be displayed on the front windshield on the passenger side and rear windshield on the driver side facing outward. Driver-partners can obtain this Uber decal by mail by using this form.

Airport fees

All pickups and dropoffs at YXE will now have a $2.00 surcharge automatically added to the rider’s fare. This surcharge will be remitted to the airport by Uber. Your agreement has been updated to reflect this change and it will not impact your earnings.

Rules and regulations

Per airport regulations, driver-partners must adhere to the terms in the latest addendum. Failure to do so may result in the receipt of a citation or even restriction of access to airport trips and a $250 fine. Please note that Uber will not pay for any citations that driver-partners may incur.

Pickups at the airport

Pickups at YXE

It’s easy to receive trip requests from riders leaving the airport. The dedicated pickup location is located at the Public (outer) curb near Door 1.

Based on feedback from YXE, please be mindful of:

  • Waiting in the areas in and around airport grounds and avoid loitering at the terminal curb.
  • Respecting the waiting areas of taxi or shuttle operators.
  • Meeting your rider in designated rideshare pickup zone.
  • If the airport is crowded, consider contacting your rider using the Uber driver app to confirm their exact location.

Waiting for requests

You‘ll only get trip requests at the airport when you’re located in the waiting lot (Cell phone lot). Once you enter the lot, you’ll be placed in a virtual queue.

At the airport, all ride requests from the waiting area at YXE are available through Trip Radar.

Trip Radar

How it works:

  • If you like a trip, tap to request a match: If you see a trip you like, tap to show interest, and find out quickly if it’s a match. You are always welcome to show interest in multiple trips, or in no trips at all.
  • Your queue position still matters: Trips at airports are not matched to the first person who taps. Instead, you’ll continue to be prioritized for trip matches based on your spot in the queue.
  • All requests in one place: You won’t need to look in multiple places to receive and match trips.

What this means for you:

  • Faster matching: Before this change, many trips would cycle through multiple individual drivers before a driver chose to accept it. Now, with Trip Radar only, you can see more trips, you can select the ones you’re interested in, and the match will go to the driver closest to the front of the queue. Faster matching means less time waiting.
  • Access requests anywhere in the line: You can receive requests no matter where you are in the queue. You won’t need to wait until you’re the first in the queue to start matching. When multiple drivers select a trip, the driver closest to the front of the queue will complete the match.
  • Protecting your acceptance and cancellation rates:With Trip Radar only, your acceptance and cancellation rates* will not be affected when you only choose the trips you like.

*Drivers are generally free to accept or decline trip offers as they wish, so long as it is not fraudulent misuse or manipulation of the Uber platform. The Uber Pro loyalty status is dependent on cancellation rates; you can learn more here.

Dropoffs at the airport

How dropoff requests work

When you’re dropping off a rider at the airport, follow the signage to the Departures/Arrivals area.

Drop your rider off on the Public (outer) curb near Door 1. Do not enter the inside commercial curb area.

Rematch

We’ve launched the Rematch feature at this airport. To qualify for Rematch, you must first complete a dropoff at the airport. Rematch then allows any driver-partner who just completed an airport dropoff to receive a pickup request without having to wait in the Waiting Area.

If you don’t receive a request within a few moments, this means there are no Rematch trips available and you should go to the waiting area if you would like to wait for a request.

Please note that waiting around the terminal will not increase your chances of receiving a Rematch. If available, Rematch will only occur a few moments after you complete an airport dropoff.

Airport regulations prohibit loitering in the terminal area. Idling at the curb may result in a citation from airport authorities.
