Uber launches Eats accounts for Teens in the UK

Uber Eats today announces the launch of parent-supervised teen accounts to coincide with the summer holidays. Eats for Teens gives families a new way to manage food ordering, empowering teens to order diverse cuisines from tens of thousands of restaurant partners while offering parents and guardians visibility and control.

Available for teens aged 13-17, the feature allows parents and guardians to invite teens to order from eligible restaurant partners through a supervised account linked to their Family profile. Parents receive notifications when orders are placed, can track deliveries in real time, and can set monthly spending limits.

As part of Uber’s commitment to helping keep teens safe when using the Uber platform, Eats for Teens accounts have a teen-friendly view in the app where they can only place orders from restaurant partners, while age-restricted items and regulated goods, such as alcohol and energy drinks, will be filtered out. Parents and guardians will be notified when their teen places an order, and can track the delivery in real-time on their phone with live delivery tracking. Families can also set a custom monthly spending budget.

For added peace of mind, only experienced delivery people are eligible to deliver Eats for Teen orders, and there’s the option to have the delivery left at the door.

Vicki Shotbolt, CEO of ParentZone, said: "Autonomy and independence is really important for young people as they mature and prepare for adulthood. Having tools that offer transparency for parents and involvement in any choices is one way to help teens to learn with guidance and guardrails."

Merve Basci, General Manager for Uber Eats in the UK, said: “Families have told us they want tools that help teens become more independent while still giving parents visibility and oversight. Eats for Teens is designed to strike that balance. Parents remain in control of account access, spending limits and order visibility, while teens can independently order from eligible restaurant partners when they need to."

Parents can follow these 3 simple steps to get their teen’s account set up in the Uber Eats app:

  • Tap Account > Family to create a Family profile.
  • Tap Invite Family > Teen > Choose contact and select their name from your contacts (Aged 13-17).
  • Make sure your payment information is up to date and a spending limit has been set before your teen makes their first order.

Then follow the below steps to set up the account on the teen’s device:

  • Once the above steps are completed by the parent or guardian, the teen will receive an invitation to join Uber for teens or to download the Uber Eats app if they haven’t already.
  • Once the teen or their guardian finishes the setup process on the desired device, they can begin using their teen account to place orders independently.

The launch follows the introduction of teen accounts on Uber, which has seen a huge positive response from Uber riders across the UK and reflects growing demand from families for products that combine independence for teenagers with parental oversight and safety features.
