We’re committed to helping make our cities safer
April Update
Why we are still operating and the work we are doing
Public transportation – a vital artery for the movement of goods, services, and people – has been hit particularly hard during the coronavirus epidemic. As cities and countries restrict movement and gatherings of people in order to flatten the curve, transit ridership has fallen precipitously. Despite this, public transportation agencies have mounted a Herculean effort to keep their cities up and running while working with limited resources.
We are discussing with the Government how we can support the broader response, exploring potential initiatives around transporting key workers, helping the vulnerable/elderly with the delivery of food and non-food essentials, and wider community with meals as they self-isolate.
COVID-19 FAQ’s
The fear and uncertainty caused by the coronavirus is being felt by everyone around the world. We know it’s especially concerning for people who drive with Uber. In these difficult times, we have a dedicated team working to support you.
What measures does Uber have in place for drivers with regard to COVID-19
Greenlight Hubs
We made you aware that, after evaluating our approach to the rapidly evolving situation, we suspended the onboarding process for any new partner-drivers within our Greenlight Hubs.
We are only facilitating in-person interactions where it is absolutely essential via a pre-booked appointment system, in order to comply with social distancing guidelines.
Providing Sanitisers
We understand this is a difficult time for drivers and we are committed to helping partner-drivers feel safe on the road. We are now providing free sanitation products which partner-drivers can use to sanitise their vehicles – should they choose to continue driving.
Financial Assistance
Subject to AXA policy terms, and a doctor’s PHO certificate, when an active Uber partner-driver in the UK falls ill as a result of COVID-19, and has been self-isolating for at least 7 days, the Partner Protection programme steps in after 7 days to provide a fixed per day payment for each day thereafter of £75 per day, up to a total payment of 15 days while the driver is unable to work.
In addition to AXA, we will also pay partner-drivers £100 per week for up to 14 days if they actively drove with Uber and got diagnosed with COVID-19 or are placed in quarantine.
What services does Uber offer to drivers when the Greenlight Hubs are closed?
We are continuing to operate a selection of our GLH services on a pre-booked appointment basis only. However, our following channels still remain in services as normal:
– 24/7 dedicated phone line for drivers.
– 24/7 In-App Support.
How will Uber Continue to support local authorities upon request?
As always, licensing teams and enforcement officers can contact Uber in a number of ways:
– A dedicated email address for day to day issues.
– 24/7 emergency phone line for instances when a driver must be immediately suspended or other very serious incidents.
– Interaction with your local Head of City by email, phone and video conference.
We have a team available 24/7 to support public health authorities in their response to the epidemic. Working with them, we temporarily suspend the accounts of riders or drivers confirmed to have contracted or been exposed to COVID‑19. We’re also consulting with an epidemiologist to make sure our efforts as a company are grounded in medical advice.
Please check the local authority website for news, information and resources.

Our work for the NHS
Finally, we are proud to share with you the work we did for the heroes and heroines in the NHS
On the 30th March, we announced that we were giving NHS workers free access to our Jump electric bikes, as well as 200,000 free Uber trips and 100,000 free Uber Eats meals, as we seek to reduce the pressure on critical frontline staff.

Matt Hancock, UK Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, said:
“Everyone has a role to play in our national effort to help the NHS tackle coronavirus, so it’s great to see Uber playing their part by offering meals and trips to work for our brilliant NHS staff.”
We are committed to doing everything we can to protect drivers and riders and are continuing to look at ways we can provide additional support to critical workers and the vulnerable across the UK.
More importantly, we wanted to thank the NHS for their heroic efforts on the frontline.
