Vehicle inspections in ACT
Get on the road with Uber
You'll need a vehicle safety inspection to drive with Uber in the ACT. It’s a good idea to check your car meets your city's requirements before having it inspected.
Book an inspection
In the ACT, all driver-partners need to pass an ACT Roadworthy vehicle inspection before taking their first trip with Uber. You'll also need to submit a passed ACT Roadworthy inspection as part of your application for rideshare accreditation to Access Canberra, and they require this to be dated within the last 30 days.
Please note that RedBook Inspect ACT will be closed until further notice. During this time, you can complete an ACT Roadworthy Inspection at any certified mechanic.
You will need to have your vehicle inspected every 12 months.
Note: A vehicle inspection is not required if the vehicle has been registered less than 12 months, and was brand new when registered.
Vehicle inspection tips
Common issues to look out for
Ensure each tyre has a sufficient tread depth of at least 1.5mm. To save time, we recommend you check your tyres prior to getting an inspection.
Ensure all lights are working, including headlights, park lights, signal indicator lights and brake lights.
Ensure the body of your car is in good condition.
Please note: Passing the vehicle inspection does not guarantee access to the Uber driver app.
