Drive with confidence
You deserve to be able to go wherever the opportunity is. Get there with support on the road and technology that helps protect you and those around you.
Masks are no longer required
As of April 19, 2022, riders and drivers are not required to wear masks when using Uber. However, the CDC still recommends wearing a mask if you have certain personal risk factors and/or high transmission levels in your area.
Remember: many people still feel safer wearing a mask because of personal or family health situations, so please be respectful of their preferences. And if you ever feel uncomfortable, you can always cancel the trip.
Updating our no-front-seat policy
Riders are no longer required to sit in the back seat. However, to give you more space, we’re still asking that riders only use the front seat if it’s required because of the size of their group.
Thank you for helping take care of one another
We know the pandemic has been difficult. But you’ve continued to go the extra mile to help protect our communities—whether it’s wearing a mask, making space for one another, or helping people get the food they need. Thank you for that.
It’s still important to take safety precautions while driving and delivering. So make sure to roll down the windows for extra airflow, sanitize your hands before and after trips or deliveries, and always cover your cough or sneeze.
Designing a safer experience
Features to help keep you safe
The app is built with technology to help you stay connected to your loved ones and our support team, so you can go even further.
Help if you need it
Specially trained incident response teams are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and you can get in touch anytime right from the app or phone.
An inclusive community
Through our joint efforts with cities and safety experts and by working together, we’re helping to create an inclusive community, where everyone feels welcome.
Peace of mind, wherever you go
Safety is designed into the experience. So you feel comfortable driving at night. So you can tell loved ones where you’re going. And so you know you have someone to turn to if anything happens.*
CPF/National ID check
If a user wants to pay for his trips only in cash, he needs to type his National ID number (CPF) and date of birth to get access to the app. This information is matched with the federal government data to confirm the user's ID.
Incident prevention technology
Uber has adopted a technology to identify risks based on real-time data of millions of trips taken through the app. The tool can block trips considered potentially risky, unless the user provides additional identification information.
Verify your ride
On some trips, your passengers will tell you a unique 4-digit code. You will only be able to start the journey after entering it. This helps you to confirm that the right passenger is getting into your car.
Inappropriate message detection
Messages sent thought the app that may be considered offensive or threaten the integrity of a person will be submitted to a process where the original account can be permanently disabling.
We use technology to help keep your phone number private, so neither drivers nor riders will see each other’s numbers when communicating through the Uber app.
All Uber rides are tracked from start to finish, so there’s a record of your trip if something happens.
Follow my ride
Friends and family can follow your route and will know as soon as you arrive.
‘Call the police’ button
This feature provides an option to call the police directly in situations of risk or emergency. The app will display your current location when you push the button, so you can share it with the local authorities who are responsible for the 190 number.
Using sensors and GPS data, RideCheck can help detect if a trip goes unusually off-course or a possible crash has occurred. If we notice such events, we’ll check on you and offer tools to get help.
24/7 incident support
Uber customer associates trained in incident response are available around the clock.
Your feedback matters. Low-rated trips are logged, and users may be removed to protect the Uber community.
Visualize the destination and if the user has less than 5 trips on the platform, before accepting the call request.
At Uber, you can choose whether the payment method will be: cash and card or only card. You can change the choice at any time in the app's preferences.
From now on, you can record the audio of a trip whenever you feel uncomfortable. The content is encrypted and can be sent to Uber thought a security report and, if necessary, used for investigations or shared with authorities.
Strengthening our community
Our Community Guidelines help riders and drivers enjoy a safe and comfortable ride. Any person who doesn’t follow the guidelines may be at risk of being removed from the platform for the safety of the entire Uber community.
Certain requirements and features vary by region and may be unavailable.
