Uber's Community Guidelines
The Uber Community Guidelines were developed to help make every experience on the app positive, safe, and respectful for everyone.
They apply to everyone who uses our platform, including, without limitation, users, drivers, delivery partners, businesses, and merchants. We expect everyone to treat others with respect, help keep each other safe, and comply with the law.

Community Guidelines spotlight
Behavior that violates the Uber Community Guidelines may result in the deactivation of accounts involved in the platform. Any behavior involving violence, sexual misconduct, harassment, fraud, discrimination, or deceptive, illegal, or harmful activity to the safety of others while using the Uber Platform may result in immediate loss of access to the platform.
Safety tips
Your personal space and comfort should be respected at all times while you're driving or delivering with Uber. If you encounter a difficult rider or customer, here are a few resources.
You can cancel a trip at any time
If you feel threatened or unsafe, you can end the trip and report the incident to us.
Report the incident
Uber reviews all reports submitted to the support team that may represent behavior that violates the Community Guidelines. To report an incident through the app, go to “Help,” select the trip, and report what happened to our support team. You can also submit a report through the website help.uber.com.
Contact authorities in the event of an emergency
If you need help while you're on a trip, use the in-app Emergency Button to call authorities. The app displays your location and trip details, so you can quickly share them with emergency services.
Frequently asked questions
- How does Uber enforce the Community Guidelines?
Uber receives reports through various channels, reviews violations of the Community Guidelines submitted to our support team, and may initiate an investigation with a specialized team. We may temporarily block your account until the review is complete. Once the review is complete, if the violation is confirmed, you may lose access to your Uber accounts for not following the Community Code. This may also include certain actions outside the app if they are identified as a threat to the safety of the Uber community or harmful to Uber's brand, reputation, or business.
- What are some actions that may result in losing access to any Uber app?
Behavior that violates the Uber Community Guidelines may result in the suspension of accounts involved on the platform. Here are some examples of Community Guidelines violations:
Physical contact. Hurting or intending to hurt anyone.
Threatening and rude behavior. Using language or gestures that could be disrespectful, threatening, or inappropriate.
Breaking laws. Violating any applicable law, including airport rules and regulations when at the airport, and rules of the road, such as speed and traffic laws, at any time when using Uber apps. All drivers and delivery people using a vehicle are required by law to maintain a valid driver’s license, insurance, and vehicle registration.
Discrimination. Discriminating against someone based on traits such as their age, color, disability, gender identity, marital status, pregnancy, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, place of residence, political preferences or any other characteristic protected under relevant law.
Drugs and alcohol. Driving or biking while intoxicated (it’s against the law).
Fraud. In addition to being a crime, fraud undermines trust in the community and affects society as a whole. Falsifying information or assuming the identity of another person, for example during sign-up or a security check, is prohibited. It’s important to provide accurate information when reporting incidents, creating and accessing your Uber accounts, disputing charges and fees, and requesting credits. Only request amounts and reimbursements that you are entitled to and use offers and promotions correctly. Do not purposefully complete invalid transactions. Some examples of fraudulent activities include submitting false documents; purposely increase the time or distance of a trip or delivery; accepting trip or delivery requests without the intention to complete them, including causing cancellations by users of the Uber app; create fake accounts; claiming fraudulent fees or charges, such as false cleaning fees; purposely request, accept, or complete fraudulent or counterfeit trips or deliveries; stating that you completed a delivery without picking up the order or package; Pick up an order or package and keep part of it or not deliver it; act with intent to disrupt or manipulate the normal functioning of the Uber Platform; intentionally disrupt the ability to provide ride or delivery requests to other parties by going online without intending to accept requests manipulating settings on your phone to prevent your mobile app and GPS system from functioning properly while using the Uber Platform; individually or collectively coordinate the induction of an artificial price change; abusing promotions and/or not using them for their intended purpose; dispute charges for fraudulent or illegitimate reasons; create improper duplicate accounts; or falsify documents, records, or other data for fraudulent purposes.
Account sharing. To use any Uber app, you need to register and maintain an active account. Don’t let another person use your account, and never share your personal information used in connection with your account, such as your user name and password with anyone else.
Incorrect vehicle information. To facilitate trips or deliveries, the Uber app provides users with information that identifies drivers and delivery partners (such as profile picture and name) and the vehicles they use (such as license plate, make, and model). Inaccurate or outdated information confuses users and can negatively impact the Uber app experience.
Sex while using Uber apps. Uber has a no-sex rule. Sexual contact is prohibited while using Uber app, including during a trip or on a delivery, regardless of whether you know the person or they give you their consent.
Sexual assault and misconduct. Uber prohibits any type of violence (physical or verbal) and sexual misconduct. Sexual assault and misconduct refers to sexual contact or behavior without explicit consent of the other person.
Unwanted contact with riders after a trip or delivery. Contact should end when the trip or delivery is complete, unless it’s to return a lost item. Unwanted communication can be viewed as harassment and includes, for example, texting, social media contact, unauthorized calling, visiting or attempting to visit a person after a trip or delivery has been completed. For your own safety, do not share contact information unnecessarily.
See the Uber site for more information on the most common reasons why drivers and delivery partners may lose access to their accounts and how to file a deactivation review request.
