We’re continuing our series called “Why I Ride”, which highlights our top riders in the community. We will be showcasing a handful of entrepreneurs, community leaders and some recognizable local faces who are sharing their stories of Uber around the island.
We recently had the chance to catch up with Travis, the Field Marketing Manager for a beverage brand – Hawaii and Alaska, to find out why he rides! See below for his story:
Why do you ride?
I ride because getting from Point A to B is simply that with Uber. No waving people down, no unpleasant drivers or smelly cars, and no wheeling & dealing to pay.
What makes you feel safe about riding with Uber?
The fact that I can view a driver’s profile, ratings, and that there’s a reliable way to contact them should there be an issue makes all the difference to me. I hate forgetting something in a cab and feeling like there’s an army of eggy dispatchers to talk to in order to get in touch with the driver.
What occasions do you use Uber?
When parking at the destination sucks, or when I just need to get there as fast as possible. Uber’s also my trusty transportation app on a big night out when I feel like I need to be 4 places at once.
What is your favorite feature in the app?
I love that you don’t have to talk to anyone (does that sound anti-social)? I enter my pickup and drop off points, and it just happens.
When did you first download the Uber app?
When Uber came to Hawaii, I think I pressed a button on my phone and voila.
What is your favorite Uber option (product) and why?
UberSelect is my jam. All the convenience of uberX plus you get to roll up in a styley manner.
What is your favorite place to Uber to?
If the destination is in Chinatown or Waikiki, parking usually costs more than the fare and zero stress finding somewhere to park it.

Before Getting into the Car
- No more street hails or waiting outside to find a ride. You can start the Uber app from anywhere and wait safely for your car to arrive.
- Trips are no longer anonymous. When a driver accepts your request, you see his or her first name, photo, and license plate number. You can also check whether others have had a good experience with him or her by viewing their rating.
During the Ride
- Never get lost. You can see the route on the map in the app.
- Share your ETA and location. You can easily share your ride details, including the specific route and estimated time of arrival, with friends or family for extra peace of mind.
After the Ride
- Feedback and ratings after every trip. After every ride, you and your drivers are asked to rate each other and provide feedback.
- 24/7 Support. If something happens in a car, our customer support team is ready to respond to any issues 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Rapid Response. We have a dedicated Incident Response Team to answer any more urgent issues.
