Some convention-related events may change pickup and dropoff experiences in downtown Charlotte this week. Below is some information to help you plan for smoother rides.
● Face-cover guidelines: Please note: everyone riding, driving, and delivering on Uber’s platform must wear a face cover or mask. Learn more here.
● New ride-capacity limits: To allow for more distance in the car, we’re advising that riders no longer sit in the front seat. This means that every ride with Uber should have one less passenger seat available. For example, rides with UberX should have a maximum of 3 passengers instead of 4, and only in the back seats. Learn more here.
● Plan ahead: You can expect higher-than-normal demand after events and anticipate potential delays due to heightened security requirements—leaving earlier may help you get your ride faster.
● Chat in-app: It’s easy to connect with your driver to confirm a pickup location—just send a message in the Uber app.
● Stand out in a crowd: With Spotlight, you can light up your phone with a special color so your driver can spot you more easily.
● Check your ride, every time: We recommend that, before you get into a car, you always check to confirm key details: please make sure that the license plate number and vehicle make and model match what’s listed in your app, and check that your driver matches their photo.
● Smoother trips: To ensure smooth rides, please read all in-app messaging and follow the guidance of event staff, law enforcement, and directional signs—they may have important details about where to go to request a ride.
● Event pickups: Due to security restrictions, vehicles may not be able to access the Charlotte Convention Center. Riders are encouraged to request a ride from outside the property near 3rd Street. Follow in-app directions when requesting a ride.
Please note: This post may be updated regularly with new information that Uber receives from event organizers and local law enforcement. Check back throughout the week for the latest details.
