2017 marks Uber’s third anniversary in Nashville. It all started with a simple, affordable ride on-demand a little over 3 years ago.
Since then, we’ve delivered everything from hot chicken to music auditions to kittens with the tap of a button. We’ve partnered with Nashville institutions like the Nashville Predators & Vanderbilt University and supported logistics at events like New Year’s Eve, Live On The Green, and Steeplechase. Most importantly, we’ve been proud to play a role in increasing mobility options in Nashville, making it safer to get around town, and creating economic opportunities for thousands of drivers.
It’s been an incredible journey so far and we want to thank you for letting us move Nashville. Let’s take a look at some of the ways you’ve moved us.
Our Community
We couldn’t have gotten here without our amazing community of riders & driver partners. Meet some of the people who make Uber Nashville great!
Meet Samuel: Our Uber Valedictorian
About Samuel: It’s an unseasonably warm and sunny day in Downtown Nashville, and we’re meeting up with Samuel to chat about this Uber all-star’s secrets to success. Samuel is no regular Uber driver – he’s taken over 9,000 trips on the Uber platform and maintained a near-perfect 4.97 rating!
Samuel’s subtle Jamaican accent shines through when he introduces himself – he explains that he was born in Jamaica and moved to Nashville 8 years ago to be with his mother, who moved to Nashville earlier.
Samuel is warm, funny, and smiling the whole time – it’s instantly clear why riders love him. He explains that he quit his day job to drive Uber full-time after realizing he could earn more with Uber, while having a more flexible schedule.
His secret to success? “I treat it like a full time job and start off each morning with a goal – I drive through the day until I reach my goal, and then I can go offline and enjoy my evening.”
The flexibility allows him to pursue his passion of web design & development – as he’s currently teaching himself both during his off hours in order to become a full-stack web developer.
When asked about achieving his high rating, he says it’s all about understanding the rider and customizing the experience for their needs. He’s also great at giving advice. When asked what his best piece of advice is, he wisely states, “Don’t let yourself worry or be unhappy about what you can’t control.” An all-star perspective indeed.
If you’re lucky enough to catch a ride with Samuel, be sure to say thanks!
About Diana: Artist and designer Diana Warner has been creating art since she was a child growing up in Tennessee. In 2005, Warner launched an accessories brand called Diana Warner Studio.
Since then, the studio has catered to over 700 stores worldwide, designed red carpet pieces for celebrities like Blake Lively & Angelina Jolie, housed appearances on hit TV shows like ABC’s “Nashville”, and been featured in publications like Vogue and Marie Claire. Warner has also ventured into the music world by creating exclusive accessories lines for the band Styx, and country stars Tim McGraw & Faith Hill.
Not only does she cater to VIPs daily, she’s our ultimate Uber VIP, having taken over 2,000 trips on the platform!
Why do you love using Uber? “As a busy business owner and designer, I take comfort in the fact that I can get from place to place easily, and pleasantly. I often joke that I can “get a lot of work done in the back seat of an Uber,” and truthfully I can! Uber is my main source of transportation and I am able to answer emails, make work calls, manage projects and keep up with my social posting, all while being transported safely during my work day.
After work hours, many of my events and social commitments require entertainment and include alcohol, because I am passionate about sober drivers and being responsible, Uber is perfect for myself and my staff and allows us to arrive at events in style, together, on time and in a responsible manner.”
