Earnings Estimator FAQs

  • The estimate provided is for illustrative purposes and not a guarantee of future earnings. The estimate represents the median weekly earnings of driver-partners in your city in the last month who drove approximately the number of hours you selected. The estimate provided does not include costs for which you will be responsible, like fuel, maintenance, and others. Actual earnings vary, depending on factors like the number of trips provided, time of day and location.

  • Earnings are estimated from trip fares and include tips and some promotional offers (including Quest and Consecutive Trips). We include tips in the estimator by looking at the median amount of tips (including those cases where there was no tip) received by driver-partners who drove a similar amount of hours in your city in the last month. Tips are given at the rider’s discretion and not guaranteed. The estimate includes an amount for the service fee Uber charges to driver partners.

Estimates do not include referral promotions and some other promotional offers such as sign-up bonuses, and also do not include toll fares or costs for which you will be responsible, like fuel and maintenance costs, taxes (e.g., GST) and other costs.

If you wish to learn about tax obligations that may apply to you, please refer to https://www.ato.gov.au/General/The-sharing-economy-and-tax/Ride-sourcing/.

  • The earnings estimates displayed are based on the median weekly earnings of driver-partners in your city who drove a similar number of hours to those selected in the estimator over the course of the last month (from the time the data is refreshed, which is fortnightly).

Estimates do not include sign-up bonuses, referral rewards, and some other special one-off promotional offers. Estimates also do not include payments to drivers that are for reimbursements of costs paid by the driver (e.g., for toll fares). Quest and Consecutive Trip promotions are included. The estimate provided does not include costs for which you will be responsible, like fuel, maintenance, and others.

  • To provide earnings estimates, we start by looking at the earnings of all driver-partners in your city who drove around the number of hours you selected over the last month. With this sample, we group into hourly buckets, calculate the median earnings for each bucket, then take the average of the median earnings produced.

For example, if the number of hours selected was “Around 30 hours," we identify the driver-partners who drove 27.5 - 28.5 hours, 28.5 - 29.5 hours, 29.5 - 30.5 hours, 30.5 - 31.5 hours, and 31.5 - 32.5 hours. For each set of driver-partners, we calculate the median, then take an average of those medians.

  • A median number is the middle of all the numbers in a group if you order them from smallest to largest. About half of the numbers in the group will be greater and half of them will be smaller.

Your actual earnings may be less than the median number stated in the estimator for the number of hours selected. Actual earnings may vary depending on factors like the number of trips provided, time of day and location.

  • The numbers shown are all based on medians (see above for a description of how a median is calculated). The important thing to remember is that an equal number of driver-partners earned more and an equal number of driver-partners earned less than the median, and then these “typical” medians were averaged across the hours in the range you chose in order to give you a sense of what is typical for the number of hours you selected. Actual earnings vary based on a number of factors like number of trips accepted and taken, time of day and location. Your actual earnings may be less than the median number stated in the estimator for the number of hours selected.

  • We typically refresh the information displayed in the earnings estimator every week to show what was typical in the last month.

  • Driver-partners charge a fare for each instance of transportation services provided (that is, each trip they complete) and are not paid by the hour. Earnings can change based on the number of trips driver-partners choose to accept and complete in a week, as well as other factors like time of day and location.

  • For the purposes of these estimates, we included all periods when driver-partners were online in the app in the last month for approximately the number of hours you selected.

  • This means there were fewer than 30 drivers who drove a similar number of hours to those selected in the estimator over the course of the last month (from the time the data is refreshed, which is weekly).

Estimated weekly earnings are based on median weekly earnings of driver partners in your city for the past four weeks who drove the same number of hours per week as selected. Earnings include the trip fare, certain promotional offers (other than referral promotions and certain other promotional offers), and tips (which are not guaranteed and provided at the discretion of the rider). The estimate includes an amount for the service fee Uber charges to driver partners. This estimate does not include costs for which a driver partner is responsible, like fuel, vehicle maintenance, taxes and others. This is an estimate of weekly earnings in your city, for illustrative purposes only, and is not a guarantee of future earnings. For the avoidance of doubt, driver partners charge a fare for each instance of transportation services provided and are not paid by the hour. Actual earnings vary, depending on factors like the number of trips provided, time of day and location. Estimated earnings will only be shown when the per hour rate (calculated based on minimum hourly wage plus reasonable costs) is $30 or over per hour for the number of hours selected. Median earnings in your specific location may be lower than the city median figure. Since the median is the middle, you may make more or less than the median amount. Promotional offers are completely optional, subject to change at Uber’s discretion and may vary from time to time.
