Boston’s summer swelter has officially begun, and we’ve got you covered for nearby beaches to cool you off! Whether you’ve been planning all week or throwing together a last-minute beach trip, all of these beaches are around 30 minutes away (or less!) and won’t cost you a pirate’s fortune to get there. Oh, and you don’t have to worry about parking, which some of these beaches lack altogether.

RevereBeach
From on-site filming of upcoming thriller Black Mass this week to the Sand Sculpting Festival next weekend, Revere Beach has some exciting stuff going on. Kell’s Kreme has your frozen treats on lock-down. Two words: banana bucket. Definitely hit up Bianchi’s Pizza for killer slices on the beach.

NahantBeach
Boston’s best-kept secret cove is 40 Steps Beach in Nahant. When you’re ready for some grub, the go-to restaurant and pub is Tides. With a view of the water and deck seating, you can stuff your face without ocean withdrawal. For the aquatic athletes, there’s Ocean House Surf Shop in neighboring town, Swampscott, where you can rent stand up paddle boards and surfboards.

Carson Beach & Pleasure Bay | est. 15 minutes from Boston

CarsonPleasureBay
South Boston’s shoreline has sandy beaches, parks, and history. Check out the hulking Fort Independence on Castle Island, with free tours from noon to 3:30. There are also volleyball courts, if you’re looking for ways to get sand where the sun don’t shine. Or bring your bocce ball set and make some fast friends.

Not ready to show off that beach bod? Chowing down on baguettes, cheese, and wine more your style? We’ll be at Bastille Day 2014, celebrating French music, food, and culture with the French Cultural Center in the Back Bay.
