While the ordinance passed today by the Milwaukee Common Council creates a general framework for rideshare services in Milwaukee, it also creates a barrier for would-be driver partners by requiring them to pay the highest up-front costs in the country. This will severely limit the potential for ridesharing growth in Milwaukee; a city with one of the highest drunk-driving rates in the country and a need for additional transportation options.
Other cities including Minneapolis, Detroit and Chicago have embraced regulations that acknowledge the innovative nature of rideshare and have implemented modern ordinances that foster job growth and consumer choice.
Uber will work with the city to ensure continued access to affordable, reliable and expanded transportation services for Milwaukee residents.
