The Grand Canyon State is amazing for a lot of reasons… 300+ days of sunshine, breathtaking sunsets, the best tacos and margaritas around, and (of course) Uber! The Uber Arizona team loves providing riders with a convenient, reliable and affordable way to get around Phoenix and Tucson – while also helping tens of thousands of riders get home safely and in style!

Uber’s smartphone app provides multiple options to get around AZ: UberBLACK, UberSUV, and our lower cost option, uberX. uberX allows individuals to use their personal vehicles to pick up riders via the Uber app, as long as the drivers have passed background checks and vehicle inspections. In addition to connecting Arizonans with an innovative transportation solution to help reduce DUIs (at a price that is 25% cheaper than a taxi), this technology has opened up new entrepreneurial opportunities for many people in our community to make money on their terms.

uberX – Uber’s “ridesharing” option – is only a year old, but is already one of the most popular services in the country! In an effort to continue providing this amazing technology, lawmakers have introduced House Bill 2273 to the Arizona State Legislature to define “ridesharing” for uberX. We are actively working with the AZ State Legislature – along with regulatory, city, and insurance stakeholders – to ensure important elements of the bill win approval, including:

• Mandatory county, state and federal criminal background checks
• Vehicle inspections that include verification of licensing, registration and personal insurance in AZ
• Zero tolerance policy for drug or alcohol use while on a trip
• Maintenance of an excess insurance policy in the amount of $1M per incident during ridesharing trips
