Since Uber’s arrival in Portland, locals have loved to use the app as a tool for safely getting to their favorite places to grab a beer.
Among its slew of nicknames, Portland has rightfully earned the title of “Beervana”. With almost 70 microbreweries in operation around the Portland metro area, CNN has listed Portland as the number one “Beer Town” in America.
Here’s a top 5 list of where Portlanders are catching a ride to drink their favorite beer.
No. 1 – 10 Barrel Brewing
The most Ubered-to brewery in Portland has earned its spot by creating a vibrant culture with a lively pub hall and popular events, such as their recent “Pray 4 Snow” party. With a sizeable tap list and rooftop patio, their NW pub becomes quite the social scene on the weekends. A variety of beers on tap ensures a good time for both classic and progressive beer lovers from a choice of IPAs to a pumpkin spiced milk stout. It’s always a party in the pearl at 10 Barrel Brewing. Experience the hype for yourself and be sure to take an Uber to stay safe on the way.
No. 2 – Fat Head’s Brewery
Originally from Pittsburgh, Fat Head’s has made a significant impact in Portland’s brew scene. Since the company’s creation in 2009, they’ve won almost 30 awards for their innovative and exciting brews; recently winning gold at the World Beer Cup for their Hop Juju IPA. Located in NW, Fat Head’s boasts an impressive happy hour menu and offers a diverse lineup for beer connoisseurs in search of their next taster flight. Portland’s brewery has a very large beer hall, perfect for parties or just a first stop on a night out with friends.
No. 3 – Cascade Brewing
Certainly the most unique brew house on the list, Cascade Brewing in SE specializes in sour beers that aim to have their patrons pucker up and join the sour revolution. With almost 20 beers on tap, Cascade often rotates brews and is not afraid to be experimental. With brews like the Honey Ginger Lime Ale and the Elderberry Ale, this brewery is sure to offer unique flavors rarely found elsewhere. Due to Portland’s famous spirit for bold taste pallets, it’s no wonder that a sour beer brewery would be so popular.
No. 4 – Base Camp Brewing
As one could gather from the title, Base Camp Brewing promotes a love of adventure sports and the outdoor spirit that is so prominent among Oregonians. Although only being a few years old, Base Camp has quickly become a popular place to hangout in SE Portland. Their taproom has an expansive beer hall and outdoor seating area. They also partner with local food carts, and all-day happy hour on Monday makes this combo especially sweet. Make sure to check out their annual Collabofest, which brings together 16 breweries to create 16 beer fusions exclusive to the festival.
No. 5 – Deschutes Brewery
Hailing from Bend, Oregon, Deschutes Brewery has an exemplary lineup of craft brews at their location in NW. Last year, Deschutes took home the 2015 Oregon Sustainability Award due to aggressive recycling and a strong emphasis on energy conservation, something most Portlandians would be proud of. And on Tuesdays, the pubs give back by partnering with different nonprofits for a program called Community Pints. Their beer titles such as the Black Butte Porter and Mirror Pond Ale pay homage to Oregon’s famous wilderness attractions, which really builds their brand of Oregonian pride.
