In a step toward creating a more reliable earning experience, we’re updating our time and distance rates to make earnings more reflective of the time and effort you put in, no matter what type of trip you accept.

We know that UberPool trips may not have always made your time and effort valued, so as part of this change, we’re also updating UberPool rates to match UberX rates.

As a result, we expect that average per-trip earnings with UberX will remain the same and average per-trip earnings with UberPool will increase.

What’s changing?

Rates to better value your time

We’re increasing the per-minute rate and decreasing the per-mile rate for UberX. No matter where a trip takes you, we want your time to be valued.

UberPool rates equal UberX rates

We’re updating UberPool rates to match UberX rates. Whether you take a 2-mile UberX trip or a 20-mile UberPool trip, your time and effort will be valued equally.

You’ll still receive the 70-cent fee per UberPool pickup, plus any tips. Here’s how the new rates compare with the old rates for an UberPool trip with 2 pickups:

Why are we making these changes?

Our goals with these updates are to help make your earnings more consistent and better value your time and effort—no matter what type of trip you do, or where a trip takes you.

We expect that this change will have a neutral effect on per-trip UberX earnings.

  Is this a fare increase?

  We’re rebalancing the way time and distance are valued by increasing the per-minute rates and decreasing the per-mile rates for UberX and UberPool. Further, we are adjusting UberPool rates to match UberX rates. You can expect your average trip earnings for UberPool to increase as a result of these changes. We expect the average per-trip UberX fares in Las Vegas to remain the same. The update is intended to make trip earnings more consistent and dependable, regardless of whether a trip takes you through heavy traffic or on an open highway, or if you have extra pickups with UberPool.

  Why decrease the distance rate?

  Rebalancing the rates and making UberPool rates the same as the rebalanced UberX rates has the advantages of not raising rates for riders to a place that we think might discourage them from using Uber and of creating a positive impact on your overall earnings. The goals of these updates are to give you more confidence that every trip is worth your time and to help create more dependable earnings from trip to trip, even when you get an UberPool trip or encounter unexpected delays. We’re working to improve your earnings experience in additional ways in the future.

  How will these updates affect surge and promotions?

  They will not have an impact on the way surge or other promotions are calculated. The same emphasis on the time you spend on a trip will be put on both surge and non-surge trips, so that your time is better taken into account.

  Are rider rates changing, too?

  These rate changes will be for drivers and riders. Riders will continue to see their full upfront price when they request a trip.

  Do these updates affect the UberPool pickup fee?

  No, the pickup fee does not change. You’ll still receive this fee for every additional pickup you make on an UberPool trip.

  Do these updates affect the per-minute wait fee rate?

  No, the per-minute wait fee rate will not change. The wait fee is calculated with a separate per-minute rate that is equal to or higher than the new on-trip per-minute rate. You can find your per-minute wait fee rate in the Fares tab of your partner portal.

  Why have there been so many pricing changes lately?

  Our intention with these changes is to improve your earning experience. We’re being thoughtful about the changes and working to ensure that we can collect and incorporate your feedback along the way. Rebalancing rates is just one step toward the goal of a better, more consistent earning experience. We’re relying on your feedback to inform other changes that may come in the future.

  Is this change nationwide or specific only to my city?

  We are evaluating our rates across many cities. That’s why we are being thoughtful about each individual city’s dynamics and thus rolling out this change gradually. In this way, we can work more closely with you to understand how this is affecting your experience and to incorporate your feedback before making any broader changes.
