Understanding payments on your healthcare benefits card with Uber
What is a healthcare benefit card?
This is a pre-funded debit card issued by a health plan that is used for eligible healthcare expenses only. Eligible expenses may require insurance co-payments and deductibles and are defined by your health plan. Examples may include prescription drugs, medical devices as well as transportation, grocery items, and over-the-counter medications. Eligible items vary based on plan. Not all eligible items will be available for purchase on Uber. To use your card to buy eligible items, add items to your cart in the app and then proceed to checkout. You’ll see which items are eligible on the payment screen before you complete your order.
What is covered under my healthcare card?
Item eligibility is dependent on your plan, coverage is determined by your benefits card provider on an item-by-item basis.
Are all items covered by my healthcare card?
Not all items are covered by a healthcare card. If an item is not covered by your card it is charged to the secondary payment method on the account.
Why did certain items go to my healthcare card and others go to my personal card?
Though your healthcare card covers a variety of items, depending on your plan, some items may not be covered. Those that are deemed ineligible through your health plan are defaulted to your secondary payment method.
Are tips and fees covered by my card?
Applicable fees will be covered by your benefits card if deemed eligible. Tax for covered items is charged to your benefits card, however, other fees may be charged to your secondary payment method if not covered by your benefits plan. Coverage may vary by plan. Please contact your health plan for coverage details.
Are substitutions and adjustments covered by my healthcare card?
If the order results in price adjustments for the total order (e.g. due to changes in estimated vs. actual prices) any additional overage adjustments will be charged to your secondary payment method by default.
If substituted items are deemed eligible they will be covered by your benefits card, as long as there is a remaining balance on the card. If the entire item is substituted we accurately adjust the charges according to the new item’s estimated price, and if eligible, will be charged to your healthcare benefits card.
Why is the amount charged to my benefits card greater than the sum of the items?
Taxes and fees for relevant items will be added to the amount charged to your benefits card.
Why are some items not covered?
Please visit your program website and contact your plan or card vendor’s support team for questions about your plan’s eligibility.
Am I able to use Uber Cash and my Healthcare card at once?
