DNC: By the Numbers

What a week it was, Philadelphia. Thanks to the hard work of thousands of drivers on the road, a record-breaking number of visitors in Philly relied on Uber last week for easy, affordable rides at the push of a button.
So with the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in our rearview mirror, we decided to dig into the numbers and take a closer look at Uber’s role in transportation logistics at the convention.
Here’s what we found:
- More than 1 in 4 convention attendees used Uber. Every day, on average, more than 5,000 unique riders rode Uber to or from the Wells Fargo Center, which has a maximum capacity of 20,000 people.
- 25 trips per minute during peak times. Between 11:45pm and 12:30am Thursday night, there was a peak of 25 trips per minute beginning at the Uber Rider Lounge and the immediate area next to the convention site.
- Only 7% of trips departing the DNC venue surged. Thanks to our investments in driver communications and incentives, dynamic pricing stayed low throughout the week, offering both reliability and affordability for riders.
- Average time to pick-up: 9 minutes. Even with the massive crowds, tight security, and a single lane of vehicle traffic allowed in and out, the average time to pick-up following a ride request from the Uber Rider Lounge was only 9 minutes.
Now, it’s time to take a breath and let things get back to normal. In the meantime, we’ll be hard at work making sure you can get a ride in minutes, no matter where you are in the City of Brotherly Love.
