Picking up from Wellington Airport
If you’re waiting to pick up riders from Wellington Airport, you’ll be placed in a virtual queue, which means you’ll receive trip requests on a first in, first out basis. This means that driver-partners who have been waiting the longest get requests first.
To operate at the airport, Wellington Airport requires you to comply with its rules and procedures. You’ll need to familiarise yourself with them; failure to do so could result in you no longer being able to conduct pick-ups or drop-offs at the airport.

At Wellington Airport, simply drop off riders in the public drop off lane on Level 1 of the car park.
Fees at Wellington Airport
Wellington Airport requires that all driver-partners picking up or dropping off a passengers to pay a $4.00 fee. This is in line with the fee charged by Wellington Airport to small passenger services providing pickups and dropoffs.
This $4.00 fee will be automatically added to your rider’s fare for any trips that involve pickups or dropoffs at the Wellington Airport, so you will not be out of pocket. Collection of this fee from driver partners on behalf of Wellington Airport, and payment to Wellington Airport, will be handled by Uber; driver partners will not be required to pay anything directly to the Airport.
If you are a GST-registered driver-partner, you should be able to claim the GST component of the per-trip Airport Fee. It’s recommended that you contact a registered accountant should you have any questions. Note that SFO charges a $3.85 fee for all Uber requests—including drop-offs. This fee is charged directly to riders and will be paid to SFO. This way, you will never be charged for airport requests.
How pickups work at Wellington Airport
1. Enter the virtual queue
To place yourself in the airport queue, head to the area surrounding Wellington Airport and open the Uber app. Once you are in the virtual queue, you will see a number range at the top of your screen indicating where you are in the queue.
There is currently no designated area for driver-partners to wait to receive pickup requests. It is recommended that you find a safe and appropriate public area near the airport to wait for pickup requests.
Trips will be received by driver-partners on a first in, first out basis, meaning driver-partners who have been waiting the longest get the requests first.
Once you are at the front of the queue, you will receive the next available trip request.
2. Accept a trip request and head to the airport terminal
In order to meet your rider, drive towards the airport along Stewart Duff Drive.
Before the Golf Club exit and before the end of the top-deck structure, use the App Based Pick Up entry point on the right hand side to turn in under the top-deck to the pickup zone.
3. Locate your rider and exit the airport
Once your rider is in the car, you can begin the trip as you normally would.
To exit the airport, exit via the public pickup lane on Level 0 or via the public drop off lane on Level 1.

How does short trip protection work?
Now if you get a short-distance trip* from WLG, we'll hold your spot for 6 hours, so that you can return to the same virtual queue and get another trip quickly. If a trip is eligible for short trip protection, we'll let you know in the app before you accept the trip.
*To be eligible for short trip protection, you must be waiting in an airport queue for at least 15 minutes. Short trip protection is valid for 6 hours at the same virtual queue and remains in place even if you go offline or do other trips before returning to the airport's queue. Airport short trip protection distance radius is subject to change.
How do I know my position in the queue?
Shortly after arriving in the area surrounding the airport, your position in the queue will appear (shown in your driver app as a numerical range). It’s important to remember that your position in the queue won’t always mean the same wait time; for example, position 15 can sometimes wait 30 minutes and other times only 5 minutes.
My rider called me and asked me to pick them up curbside. What do I do?
To ensure that traffic at the terminal is kept to a minimum and you are complying with the Wellington Airport Operating Rules, pickups by driver-partners must only occur at the designated pick-up area. If the rider is unsure about where to go, tell them to exit the terminal and follow the signs which say “App-based pickup zone”.
Will I be reimbursed for the airport fee?
