- How do I become an Assist driver-partner?
Driver-partners must meet the following criteria to offer Uber Assist trips:
- Maintain a minimum rating of 4.85 or higher.
- Provide vehicles that can accommodate folding wheelchairs, walkers, and collapsible scooters. Please note that wheelchair-accessible ramps or lifts are not required.
- Maintain a high standard of safety on the Uber app.
- Complete a free, short disability awareness course (about 15–20 minutes), which includes the Australian Network on Disability module. This training provides guidance on offering support, such as safely getting out of your vehicle to meet riders, helping them get in and out of the vehicle, and providing reliable kerb-to-kerb assistance.
If you’re eligible, check your email for an invitation to take the course once you’ve completed your 20th trip on the Uber platform. You’ll start receiving Assist trip requests soon after finishing the course.
- If I get Assist trip requests, can I still get UberX trip requests?
Yes, you'll keep getting your usual UberX requests as well as Assist requests.
- What if my car isn’t large enough to fit mobility equipment?
Every partner invited to Assist drives a vehicle that should be able to fit an assistive device, like a folding wheelchair or collapsible scooter. It’s a good idea to always leave space in your boot, as you never know when you might get an Assist request. If your vehicle can’t safely fit your rider’s assistive device, you can cancel the trip and contact Support to let us know why.
- How will I know it’s an Assist request?
When you get a request, ‘Assist’ will show up at the top of the request screen.
- Can I choose not to take Assist trips?
Yes, if you no longer want to receive Assist trips, you can opt out in your preferences.
- Do I have to allow assistance animals in my car?
Yes, all drivers are legally required to accept riders with assistance animals. Find out more about Uber’s Assistance Animal Policy at the link below.
