Your city. Our promise.

Uber will be a zero-emission platform by 2040.

Millions of rides a day. Zero emissions.

That’s our commitment to every single person on the planet. The path there will be electric. It will be shared. It will be with buses and trains and bicycles and scooters. These monumental changes won’t come easy. Or fast. But we have a plan to get there, and we need you to come along for the ride.

Today

Announce global commitment to becoming a zero-emission mobility platform

2025

Hundreds of thousands of drivers transition to electric vehicles (EVs) through our Green Future program. Amsterdam will be one of the leading cities with 100 percent electric journeys in 2025. This is in line with agreements made between Uber and the municipality of Amsterdam

2030

Uber is operating as a zero-emission mobility platform in major cities in Europe, Canada, and the US

2040

100% of rides globally are in zero-emission vehicles or through micromobility and public transit

Offering more ways to ride green

We’re committed to providing sustainable, shared alternatives to the personal car.

  • Uber Green

You can now tap a button and request a ride in a 100% electric vehicle in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and more cities in the Netherlands will follow soon. Outside of the Netherlands Uber Green is offered with electric and hybrid cars in select cities around the world. To make Green rides even more attractive, we’re subsidising 25,000 rides in the Netherlands as of today by covering the 2 euro rider surcharge.

  • Transit

We’re partnering with local transit agencies around the world to add real-time transit information and ticket purchase and redemption directly in the Uber app to ensure we always offer the best option to get from A to B.

  • Bikes and scooters

We’ve integrated Lime bikes and scooters into the Uber app across 65+ cities globally, with plans to expand micromobility options.

  • Shared rides

We’re expanding nonstop shared rides—a last-in, first-out carpooling option—to all 50+ global cities where Uber Pool is available, when and where it is safe to do so.

“As the largest mobility platform in the world, we know that our impact goes beyond our technology. We want to do our part to build back better and support a green recovery in our cities and communities.”

Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber CEO

Helping drivers go electric

Drivers are leading the way toward a greener future, and Uber is committed to supporting them. In the Netherlands, we are offering 100 drivers an incentive of 1.000 euros each when they switch to an electric vehicle. The incentive is intended to make driving an electric vehicle more financially attractive.

Our Green Future program provides access to resources valued at $800 million to help hundreds of thousands of drivers transition to battery EVs by 2025 in Europe, Canada, and the US.

Partnering to fight climate change

Uber is bringing our innovation, technology, and talent to the fight against climate change. We’re partnering with NGOs, advocacy groups, and environmental justice organizations to help expedite a clean and just energy transition. We’re also teaming up with experts, vehicle manufacturers, charging network providers, EV rental fleets, and utility companies to help drivers gain affordable access to green vehicles and charging infrastructure.

Our partners

In the Netherlands, we’ve partnered with Vandebron to offer all partner drivers who drive EV’s on the Uber platform a charge card with a thousand free green kilometers to stimulate the use of EV’s. Vandebron is also developing new possibilities to make charging electric cars 100% green and cheaper. In this way, contributing to the energy transition is made easier and more attractive for partner drivers.
