Service Fee Payments Made Easy

When you see a negative balance in your Uber account, it means you have service fees owing from cash you’ve collected from trips paid in cash by riders.

It’s easy to settle your negative balance quickly and you can do this in the Uber Driver app by using M-pesa, Airtel Money, and credit or debit cards. Pay within 2 days of receiving the payment notice to stay on the road and continue earning.

When you receive a payment notification, you have 2 days to make a payment. Please follow the steps below to make a payment to settle your service fees:

USSD

  • 1. Open your Uber Driver App

  • 2. Open inbox

  • 3. Tap View payment details and Start Now

  • 4. Enter Payment amount

  • 5. Confirm USSD as your payment method

  • 6. Select your desired Bank

  • 7. Copy authentication code

  • 8. Dial authentication code

  • 9. Enter your 4 digit pin code

  • 10. Payment is successful

Barter

  • 1. Enter payment amount

  • 2. Press proceed

  • 3. Enter Barter registered email/phone number along with your transaction code/pin

  • 4. Pay from either your Barter account or your credit/debit card

  • 5. Enter your card details

  • In order to provide earners with some flexibility, Uber allows them to pay a minimum amount which is lower than the total negative balance. Minimum amount is the lowest amount you need to pay in order to settle your negative balance. Failure to settle the negative balance or the minimum amount may result in your account being temporarily deactivated.

  • No, you can not pay an amount greater than your current negative balance.

  • You can pay any amount between the minimum payable amount and the current negative balance.

  • Payment amount and frequency are personalized based on your driving habits and how much cash you collect from riders.

  • Paying the minimum amount will reactivate your account, however, this also means that you will receive the next payment notification sooner.

  • Amounts due (and therefore your service fees) depend on how frequently you choose to drive, and whether the trips you take are paid for in cash. If you accept more cash trips from riders your negative balance and therefore your payment amounts may be higher.

  • Your account is reactivated as soon as you make a payment of the minimum amount due to settle your negative balance, however, in some cases, it can take up to 48 hours. Settle your negative balance to avoid any inconvenience.

  • Payments are reflected instantly in your Uber driver account but it may take up to 48 hours for your balance to be settled (that is reflected in your bank account or deducted from your payment method) after you make the payment.
