Tips from others for picking up orders

By now you have some appreciation for what makes an easy and stress-free pickup. Here are a few more insights from restaurant staff and other delivery people that might increase your chances of getting a better rating.

Looking for driving info?

  • Restaurants appreciate professional delivery partners

The restaurant is trusting you to handle the food they’re proud of. They’ll feel more comfortable with you, and you with them, if you’re courteous and communicate effectively.

  • Restaurants may provide extra pickup information

Helpful notes from the restaurant can be found in your app. They may include details like where to park or which door to use.

  • Restaurants look at your ETA

Restaurants use your estimated time of arrival to determine when to have their food ready. That’s why restaurants appreciate when you leave to make a pickup as soon as you accept a request.

  • Restaurants may have designated waiting areas

You can also tap Order not ready in the app. This will help us improve the app experience over time.

  • Using an insulated bag

Separate hot and cold items in an insulated delivery bag using the bag separators to maintain food temperatures.

Questions from delivery partners

  • If there’s a problem, like a flat tyre, and you can’t pick up an order, cancel the trip in your app. Once you’ve canceled, you can contact Uber Eats support through the app to report the incident to us. If you or someone else has been injured and you need emergency help, always call the authorities first.

  • Cancel the order. It’s helpful to us if you let Uber Eats customer support know that you weren’t able to find someone who works there.

  • When demand is high, restaurants may take longer than usual to prepare the food. If you’ve waited longer than 15 minutes and the food still isn’t ready, you can cancel the order through the app. Tap Excessive wait time when prompted for a reason.

  • There's a possibility that an order you accept gets canceled by the restaurant, the customer, or the Uber support team. If an order gets canceled after you pick it up from a restaurant, you will receive the full fare that includes the estimated pickup fee, dropoff fee, and distance fee.

The distance fee is calculated as the estimated distance traveled from the restaurant to the dropoff location as determined by the app's suggested route.

When an order gets canceled, the order disappears from your app and returns you to the home screen. In these instances, it’s up to you to dispose of the food in a safe place.
