1. Sam Ka Tsuen | Lei Yue Mun

Sam Ka Tsuen is a major fishing village in Lei Yue Mun, rich in history and tradition. Given its proximity to the water, definitely pay a visit to one of the restaurants there for some fresh seafood!

Local tip: Learn more about Lei Yue Mun’s culture at the Jockey Club’s Lei Yue Mun Plus, an abandoned school converted into educational, heritage, and arts center.

2. Devil’s Peak | Lei Yue Mun

A quick and easy hike that leads to a panoramic view over the east of Kowloon and the north of Hong Kong Island. It shouldn’t take you more than an hour to reach the top, though you’ll surely want to take more time to take in the view and snap some photos.

Local tip: Devil’s Peak used to be a military site, and you can still find the remains of WWII bunkers there.

3. Scoool Café  | Kwun Tong

This cozy cafe is located in one of Kwun Tong’s many industrial buildings and decorated to resemble an old Taiwan classroom. Besides the delicious Taiwanese food here, people come for the unique experience of being served by waiters and waitresses dressed in school uniforms.

Local tip: A must try – the sweet potato latte, a unique import from Taiwan.

4. Ho Wan Keung Kee | Kwun Tong

Eat like a local! Don’t be fooled by the simple appearance; the food there is finger lickin’ good. Remember to try their deep fried chicken … you won’t regret it.

Local tip: The restaurant is packed all the time, so call ahead to make a booking and pre-order their popular dishes.

5. SYUT | Ngau Tau Kok

Hidden away in an industrial building in Ngau Tau Kok, this decidedly hipster restaurant was started by local indie band tfvsjs. Apart from serving an array of Italian-inspired fusion food, SYUT will also impress you with its raw minimalist decor.

Local tip: If you’re lucky, you may be able to catch the band practicing right next to the restaurant.

6. MakerBay | Yau Tong

MakerBay hosts many exciting events for people to come together to learn new creative skills and build everything from remote controlled cars to bluetooth speakers. They have handicraft classes for kids, too, that are fun for the whole family!

Local tip: Remember to reserve in advance, and for safety’s sake, all children must be accompanied by an adult.

7. Jordan Valley Park | Kwun Tong

Hong Kong doesn’t have many vast green spaces like this one. With all its kid-friendly facilities and picture-perfect picnic spots, Jordan Valley Park is ideal for some quality family time during the weekends.

Local tip: You’d be surprised to find that there are two radio-controlled model car circuits in the park!

8. Kwun Tong Promenade | Kwun Tong

The waterfront broadway in the Promenade is about one-kilometer in length and offers a stunning view of Hong Kong Island East and Victoria Park, especially at nighttime. Don’t forget to check out the various artistic attractions there that evoke Kwun Tong’s gritty heritage.

Local tip: The restrooms will surprise you with their modern interior design.
