Cardiff Airport began its life during the 1940s as a training base for RAF Spitfire pilots and has since grown to become the main aviation gateway to Wales, handling over a million passengers a year and flying to over 50 destinations. CWL Airport is located in the Vale of Glamorgan, approximately 19 kilometers (12 miles) southwest of Cardiff city center.
