Ensuring Uber is even more reliable in London

With over 3.5million riders, and tens of thousands of drivers in London, we want to make sure that every trip is a good experience for riders, from low wait times and quick pick-ups to affordable fares.

Drivers on the Uber app all hold a private hire licence and are DBS-checked, and enjoy the freedom to choose if, when and where they drive.

To encourage drivers in London at certain times and on certain trips, on a small volume of trips we are adding an extra charge, a Trip Premium, which will increase driver earnings, incentivising them to take these trips, and create a more reliable service for riders.

Riders will always see a fare estimate before booking a ride, and if the Trip Premium is applied, this will also be included in the upfront estimate.

Your fare is calculated based on the rates in your city. Fare components are a base amount, a per minute amount, a per mile amount and, where applicable, an adjustment to minimum fare.

In cases of high demand and at peak times, your minimum fare may increase in two ways:

• Trip surge: When demand in a specific area is high and there aren’t enough available cars, fares automatically rise to encourage more drivers to go to the busy area.
• Trip premium: Varies between £1 and £10 per applicable trip depending on location and time. This fee will be applied in order to ensure a more reliable service for riders on popular routes at popular times.

These dynamic pricing components give riders a low wait time, even during peak demand hours.
