An update from Uber
Uber UK

As cities across the UK have reopened following the end of restrictions, Uber has seen a huge jump in demand, particularly during peak hours. In many cities trip requests have increased by 20-40% compared to before the pandemic.

We have a similar number of drivers using the Uber app as we did in 2019, but this jump in demand means that we are signing up 20,000 more drivers to ensure riders can enjoy the best possible service.

We acknowledge that during peak times, cancellation rates and waiting times are currently higher than normal, which is an issue for many other apps and operators.

In order to provide the best possible rider experience and bring more drivers onto the app, we are implementing an average 10 per cent fare increase on UberX rides in a number of cities across the UK.

In some cities, an additional rise will apply at peak hours to help increase the availability of rides at the busiest times.

Changes to fares are guided by rider demand. That means that during busy months, prices may go up, and when rider demand decreases, prices may go back down.

We are confident that this is a compelling offer for drivers, not least because Uber provides worker rights such as holiday pay and access to a pension to all drivers. These historic changes that Uber made earlier this year means that drivers now earn with greater security to help them plan for their futures.

We want riders across the UK to be able to rely on the Uber app to get them where they need to go safely and efficiently. These changes will enable us to continue to provide the best possible experience for both riders and drivers.
