Upcoming updates to Comfort, Exec and Lux Vehicle Eligibility

At Uber, we regularly review the standards behind our products to help make sure they continue to meet the expectations of riders and drivers using the Uber app.

As part of this, we’re updating vehicle eligibility requirements for Uber Comfort, Uber Exec and Uber Lux in the UK. These updated requirements will apply to new vehicles added to an account from 1 August 2026. Below, you’ll find what’s changing, why we’re making this update, and what it means for you.

What is changing?

We’re introducing updated vehicle eligibility requirements for Comfort, Exec and Lux.

  • For New Vehicles:
    • From 1 August 2026, any new vehicle added to the platform must meet the updated requirements for Comfort, Exec and/or Lux. You can find more information here.

  • For Existing Vehicles:
    • Vehicles already on Comfort, Exec or Lux should not lose eligibility immediately due to these updated requirements.
    • Product eligibility will still be dependent on current vehicle requirements, including age related requirements where applicable.

Why are we making this change?

Clearer vehicle standards help Comfort, Exec and Lux continue to offer the experience riders expect when choosing these products.

These changes are to foster a more consistent trip experience and help riders better understand what to expect when requesting Comfort, Exec or Lux through the Uber app.

Our answers to your questions

What are the exact dates for these changes?

For new vehicles: The updated eligibility requirements apply from 1 August 2026. This means any new vehicle added to the Uber app from this date must meet the updated criteria for Comfort, Exec and Lux.

For vehicles already active on Comfort, Exec or Lux: If your current vehicle is affected, we’ll email you with the information that applies to your vehicle, including any relevant timing before an eligibility change applies. This may vary depending on the product and your vehicle’s eligibility, including including vehicle age requirements where applicable.

I bought/leased/rented a vehicle before this update but won't receive it until after 1 August - what happens?

If your vehicle is added to the Uber app from 1 August 2026, the updated criteria will apply.

If you had already committed to buying, leasing or renting a vehicle before this change, and that vehicle may not meet the updated criteria, please contact us through the Help section of the Driver app.

You’ll need to provide proof of purchase, lease or rental agreement showing the date you committed to the vehicle. We’ll review these cases individually and confirm what may be possible for your situation.

My vehicle is currently active on Exec, Comfort or Lux. Will I lose access immediately?

No. If your vehicle is already active on Comfort, Exec or Lux, you will not lose eligibility on 1 August 2026.

If your vehicle is affected by the updated requirements, we’ll email you directly with the date that applies to your vehicle and what this means for your eligibility.

Why is my specific vehicle losing eligibility?

Your vehicle may no longer meet one or more of the updated eligibility requirements for Comfort, Exec or Lux.

This could relate to factors such as vehicle age, brand, vehicle type, or whether the model is included on the updated eligible vehicle list.

If your vehicle is affected, we’ll email you with more information about what this means for your vehicle and the date from which any eligibility change applies.

Do the same rules apply to all cities in the UK?

The updated requirements apply across UK cities where Comfort, Exec or Lux are available, but timelines and eligibility details may vary by city, product and vehicle.

If your vehicle is affected, the email you receive will include the information that applies to your vehicle.

Will Uber help me upgrade my vehicle?

We are working on offers for drivers who use Uber and want to switch vehicles before their eligibility date.

Current offers including any co-funded EV programmes can be found on the Vehicle Marketplace.

Before buying, leasing or renting a vehicle, please check the latest eligible vehicle requirements to help confirm whether the vehicle meets the updated criteria for the product you want to access.

Will this affect my earnings?

Fares for Comfort, Exec and Lux are not changing as part of this update. The change affects which products a vehicle can be eligible for.

Individual earnings can vary based on factors such as trip mix, demand, city and time using the Uber app.

Drivers who upgrade to a vehicle that meets the updated criteria can keep access to eligible Premium trip requests for that product.

What does this change for riders?

These updates are intended to make the Comfort, Exec and Lux experience more consistent for riders.

Clearer vehicle standards help riders better understand what to expect when they request these products through the Uber app. A more consistent experience can help build trust in these categories over time.

I rent my vehicle from a fleet

Eligibility is based on the vehicle itself.

Eligibility is based on the vehicle. Please confirm product eligibility with your fleet operator before signing or renewing a rental or lease agreement.

I use multiple premium vehicles on my account

Each vehicle is assessed separately. One vehicle may remain eligible while another may be affected, depending on the vehicle and product eligibility.
