How to drive with Uber in Finland
Uber is a great way to be your own boss and make money. Most people are eligible to drive with Uber. Here’s what you need to know if you’re driving in Helsinki.

New to the taxi industry
If you don't currently have a taxi driving license and taxi operating license, you can get these licenses in about 4-6 weeks. Follow the steps below to quickly obtain the necessary documents. Cost up to approx. 400 EUR + entrepreneur course (*the cost of entrepreneur course depends on where you take it).
Keep in mind that when you only apply for a Finnish taxi driving license (Taksikuljettajan ajolupa) the licensing procces will take 3+ weeks and costs around 170 EUR and you are eligible to drive only for a Fleet Partner.
Get taxi driving license
Time needed: 3 + weeks.
To obtain the taxi driving license follow the following steps:
- Schedule a driver's theory test at Ajovarma (45min) You can contact Uber for study materials to prepare for the test.
- Conduct medical exam for taxi driving license at your local health care center or private hospital
- Fill in the application for the taxi driving license at Ajovarma's office including the medical exam certification
- After your application is processed and approved, you'll receive the taxi driving license by mail.
Taxi driving license is valid for 5 years.
- Cost test: 120 EUR
- Cost application: 50 EUR (*health cost check depends on where you take it)
Register a company
Time needed: 4-5 bank days
Costs: ca. 60 EUR (or more, depends on company form)
- Register a company online through YTJ website
- Get a Finnish business ID (VAT number, official number of your company)
- Official paper of the company: Company trade register is needed to drive, if not received automatically, purchase online through PRH website
Get Taxi operating license
Time needed: 3+ weeks
Taxi operating license is needed to be able to drive as an independent driver To obtain the taxi operating license you need to first register as an entrepreneur at YTJ and apply for the Taxi operating license via Traficom's website
- Costs: ca. 105 EUR - valid for 10 years. 80 EUR/year to keep (*entrepreneur course cost depends on where you take it)
Get a vehicle
If you already have a vehicle that meets the Uber requirements, you need to get a professional taxi insurance, as well as register the vehicle for business use (Luvanvarainen). Vehicle registration changes can be done at most vehicle inspection centers. As of May 1st 2021 it is also obligatory to have an illuminated taxi sign on your vehicle

- Drivers license
- Taxi Driving License
- Taxi Operating License
- Business Registration Extract
- Vehicle registration Extract
- Vehicle insurance (Operation subject to licence)
- A driver profile photo
- Photos of the vehicle (front, backseat, side)
- Photo IDs for board members and company owners with share of 25% or more
- Banking details documents
Upload your tax details and banking information
If you have your own taxi business and taxi operating license, please remember to also approve your tax details and add banking information manually to your driver profile.
Activate your account
Once all required documents are submitted and approved by our team your account will automatically get activated.
Experienced taxi entrepreneur with a taxi operating license
If you already have a car, a valid taxi driving license and a taxi operating license, you can complete the simple steps below and start driving with Uber withing just a few business days.

5. Activate your account
Once all required documents are submitted and approved by our team your account will automatically get activated.
