The earthquake that struck Hualien on April 3rd has inflicted significant damage across several communities. Our thoughts and condolences go out to those who have injured, lost their loved ones, or been displaced from their homes or communities in Hualien.

As a platform that plays a vital role in the daily lives of people by providing access to food, goods, and transportation, we are taking actions to support consumers, merchant partners, delivery partners, and fleet drivers in Hualien.

Karthik Vasudevan, Interim General Manager of Uber Eats in Taiwan, expressed, “Having served the people of Taiwan for many years, we are deeply saddened by the casualties and the devastation suffered by the communities affected by the April 3rd earthquake in Hualien. As a platform that is relied upon by consumers every day, we stand in solidarity with other companies in Taiwan to extend our support. We are prepared to explore additional initiatives to aid in the long-term recovery of Hualien, in addition to our immediate assistance.

To provide immediate relief to households in Hualien, we are providing NT$150 off on a single order, as well as full delivery fee discount for 30 days. From now until April 23rd, consumers across Hualien County can enter the [應援花蓮 ] (Support Hualien) promo code to enjoy up to $150 in discount on a single Uber Eats food delivery order. This offer is limited to one redemption per account and availability within the program period. From now until May 9th, consumers entering the [花蓮加油]  (Hualien Strong) promo code can enjoy a full delivery fee discount on food or grocery and retails orders (up to 30 orders per account user). To cater to different consumer needs, these promo codes cannot be stacked for use in the same order. This promotion is applicable to all Uber Eats users in the Hualien area, including delivery partners, merchant partners, and fleet-partnered drivers.

We are also extending support to local merchants by waiving the monthly fees for local Uber Eats merchant partners for three months and sponsoring a one-month online marketing campaign for those merchants, starting by the end of April.

In a gesture of goodwill towards fleet-partnered drivers and active delivery partners in Hualien County, we will provide Uber Cash credits equivalent to NT$1,000. These credits can be used for food, grocery, and retail deliveries, as well as for rides through our platform.

Assist in Fundraising for Long-term Relief. We understand that post-earthquake Hualien is in need of additional resources for long-term reconstruction projects. Therefore, we will assist the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Disaster Relief Foundation and the Hualien County Government’s disaster relief fund through Uber Ads on our  platform in the coming days. This effort aims to raise awareness for funds to disaster-stricken areas to aid in the restoration of Hualien.

We stand in solidarity with the Hualien community as we work together to rebuild and restore the beauty of Hualien.
