Uber Eats together with leading Taiwanese insurance company, MSIG Mingtai Insurance Company, today announced to partner together to explore a third party liability insurance product for delivery partners on Uber Eats. This is a one step forward to putting delivery partners at ease when they choose to serve consumers and the community.

This first-of-its-kind insurance product in the delivery industry, funded by Uber Eats for eligible delivery partners, has been submitted to Taiwan insurance authorities for approval. With this new insurance product, eligible Uber delivery partners will now be protected against their liability for injury or death of a third-party caused by a traffic accident during the delivery period. As soon as the product filing is approved, we target to make this insurance available to delivery partners mid-year.

Karthik Vasudevan, Interim General Manager of Uber Eats, related, “The provision of such insurance gives delivery partners peace of mind while preserving the flexibility and independence of work they value. Currently, Uber Eats provides delivery partners with accident protection covered by a group insurance program and we are looking forward to adding the additional third-party liability benefit to eligible delivery partners as soon as the product is approved by the relevant insurance authorities.”

Jiawen Chen, General Manager of MSIG Mingtai Insurance Company, shared “We are pleased to be a partner to make the community and delivery partners safer and more protected. We will be working closely with relevant stakeholders to bring the program to life.”
