In pursuit of our goal to utilize sustainable packaging materials for 80% of orders in the Asia-Pacific region by 2025 and achieve 100% by 2030, we are pleased to announce a strategic partnership with REnato lab, a prominent consultancy specializing in the circular economy. Together, we aim to develop comprehensive “Uber Eats Sustainable Packaging Guidelines” that align with international standards, local environmental regulations, and cater to the specific requirements of local merchant partners.

Karthik Vasudevan, General Manager of Uber Eats Taiwan, remarked, “Uber Eats is committed to leading the transformation towards a sustainable delivery industry, with a focus on promoting electric scooter delivery, eliminating single-use plastic packaging, and advocating for eco-friendly alternatives. Sustainability is a team sport, and we are excited to collaborate with REnato lab to pave the way forward. This partnership will enable us to receive invaluable support in defining and promoting eco-friendly packaging solutions, as well as implementing operational pilots and tracking mechanisms within our ecosystem.”

Aining OUYANG, Chief Executive Officer of REnato lab, added, “We recognize that many companies are actively formulating sustainable strategies, yet numerous sectors are still exploring viable pathways. Sustainable development requires a holistic approach that integrates eco-conscious products and services into everyday life from a human-centered perspective. This collaboration with Uber Eats is instrumental in merging our practical expertise in the circular economy with Uber Eats’ insights into consumer behavior, facilitating the design of impactful behavioral changes that resonate with the public and can be seamlessly integrated into daily routines.”

Uber Eats and REnato lab are joining forces to launch the “Uber Eats Sustainable Packaging Guidelines.” Together, we will devise packaging standards that align with international norms, encompass global trends in eco-friendly packaging, adhere to Taiwan’s regulations, and consider local usage contexts. The guidelines are slated for launch in late June and will be progressively introduced to platform merchants, with plans for gradual implementation in the medium to long term.

In addition to promoting sustainable packaging, Uber Eats is dedicated to driving environmental stewardship within the delivery industry. Uber Eats Markets have transitioned to using environmentally friendly paper bags certified by the PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification). Furthermore, the app settings no longer automatically include disposable tableware. In the realm of zero carbon emissions, nearly 20% of Uber Eats delivery orders in Taiwan are fulfilled using green vehicles. Our partnership with Gogoro aims to double the percentage of green delivery orders on the Uber Eats platform by 2025, reaching 40%, and to continue collaborating with industry partners to foster sustainable urban environments.
