Secret Ubers have been roaming Singapore for four weeks, and the Uber team has been learning more about this sunny (then torrentially rainy) island city-state. We’re not great at keeping secrets; the word got out, and our true launch has begun.
To announce our arrival, Uber celebrated with events throughout the day with our Head of Operations, Ryan Graves. We hit the ground running with meetings with The Straits Times, Yahoo! News, Wall Street Journal, and BBC Asia. Next, we ran a full house lunch with bloggers and press at Salt Tapas Bar, an intimate tapas restaurant in the downtown area. Before long, it was time to take the party through the Singapore rains to the beautiful Au Jardin restaurant for a memorable celebratory dinner.
If one thing is clear, it’s that Uber loves Singapore and could not be more excited about launching our Asia business here. What makes this island so great? For starters, Singapore is a technology hub for the region that has long welcomed innovation. We’ve quickly learned that many Singaporeans, tired of driving themselves to work, have embraced Uber as a new way to get around the city in comfort and style. Businesses across the region have made their Asia hubs here, and the city is abuzz with activity. The unpredictable weather make Singaporeans even more likely to find themselves needing an Uber to rescue themselves from the winds and rain.
If you’re not using Uber already, use the promo code ‘firstUber’ to get S$20 off your first ride and learn the thrill of arriving in style! Send us a note at supportSingapore@uber.com with any feedback; we’d love to hear what you think.
