On December 1st, Hammersmith and Fulham Council expanded their Clean Air Neighbourhood to include more of South Fulham. Hammersmith and Fulham Council have shared more information on the scheme here. According to the Council, for the first few weeks of the scheme, only warning notices will be issued. Fines will be introduced around mid to late January.
In July 2020, Hammersmith and Fulham Council introduced restrictions on some travel in the area east of Wandsworth Bridge Road, as part of their Clean Air Neighbourhood scheme. The Council has now extended the zone to more streets between Wandsworth Bridge Road and New Kings Road.
New area of the Clean Air Neighbourhood west of Wandsworth Bridge Road from December 1st, 2022.
What does this mean?
Number plate recognition cameras will capture all drivers who use the streets of South Fulham as a cut through route. (i.e driving through quieter residential streets to avoid busier main roads). The Council has advised that every single street remains accessible for pick up and drop off through specific access points. The map above sets this out.
We understand that Drivers can avoid the cameras by entering and leaving via New Kings Road or entering and leaving via Wandsworth Bridge Road.
There are no roadblocks to stop passage through the roads, so we suggest you ensure you are familiar with the right access points when driving in this area. The Uber navigation in the app will not show the cameras, however, you should not be routed through the cameras by the navigation system when you’re on a trip. This works in the same way as the existing Clean Air Neighbourhood in South Fulham where cameras are avoided by our navigation system when drivers are on trip.
What if I have a trip in the area?
If you have a pick up or drop off in the area, you will still be able to access all streets through specific routes, explained in the map above. The new Clean Air Zone should not prevent you from picking up or dropping off riders. The Uber navigation system will reflect these changes and you should not be taken through these routes whilst on a trip, except if you are making a pick up or drop off. You are free to use other navigation systems but we suggest you check that they are up-to-date with these Clean Air Neighbourhood changes.
How do I avoid getting a fine?
Our tips are:
- Familiarise yourself with the map and specific access points.
- When you are not picking up or dropping off a passenger, stick to the main roads of Wandsworth Bridge Road and New Kings Road when travelling through the area to avoid a fine.
- Exit through the same main road that you used to enter. For example, if you enter through Wandsworth Bridge Road, exit via Wandsworth Bridge Road too. The same applies for New Kings Road.
What can I do if I receive a fine?
If you receive a fine for a pick up or drop off in the area, share evidence of your trip with Hammersmith and Fulham Council. The Council has reassured us that they will cancel fines upon receipt of evidence that you were making a pick-up or drop off in that area.
You can share evidence of your trip via email at enquiries@lbhfparking.com or call 020 8753 3849. If you drive through the cameras on a trip, and the pick up or drop off area is not within the zone (ie: you have used the area as a cut through), you may be fined and this may not receive an exemption.
