What is Uber’s EV Assistance?
EV Assistance is a financial grant introduced by Uber to support London drivers with the upfront cost of purchasing an electric vehicle (EV) to drive on the Uber app. It can be used to lower the cost of a new or used EV when opting for a vehicle through your provider of choice or one of our partners!
How is EV Assistance accumulated?
- Before March 2022
For drivers who took trips on the Driver app between 16 January 2019 and 14 March 2022, in London inside the M25, a ‘Clean Air Fee’ was collected from Riders fares. This money was collected as ‘EV Assistance’.
- From May 2024
Down Small Through our PowerUp Package, eligible non-EV drivers in London can qualify for up to £5,000 in EV Assistance towards the cost of switching to an EV.

Using EV Assistance
When it comes to using your EV Assistance, there are two ways in which you can do this:
- EV ClaimBack: when you source your EV yourself.
- Uber Marketplace: when you get an EV from one of our vehicle partners.
EV ClaimBack
- How does EV ClaimBack work?
Down Small
- What do I need to do to ClaimBack EV Assistance?
Down Small To receive the payment you’ll need to:
- Have an ‘Active’ EV on your Driver account (the same EV you are claiming for); and
- Have 150 trips completed in that EV in the past 8 weeks; and
- Have EV Assistance to claim
- How much EV Assistance can I receive with EV ClaimBack?
Down Small This depends on if you are the named keeper on the V5 (Vehicle Logbook):
- Not named on V5): Receive £300 per month until the EV Assistance is used up (provided you maintain 150 EV trips in the past 8 weeks ).
- Named on V5: The entire amount of EV Assistance is paid directly.
If you are not named on the V5, you’ll have to meet the payment criteria each month - don’t worry though, you only need to submit the form once, our team will check every month going forward for you.
- What’s improved about EV ClaimBack and how can I check if I am eligible?
Down Small We’ve made some changes to help keep you informed about your claim progress:
- Before you apply: Find out if you are eligible here before you submit your claim (and if you are not eligible what needs to change).
- After you submit your claim: Know when you’ll be paid; if eligible you’ll receive this on the 10th (or the next working day) of the month.
- Expecting payment: Know when you’ll be paid; if eligible you’ll receive this on the 10th (or the next working day) of the month.

- The EV ClaimBack cycle explained:
Down Small - Applications: Once you submit your claim it will enter the queue for review.
- Reviews: Our team checks whether you meet the eligibility criteria - including the amount you will receive.
- Payments: Our team pays the EV Assistance directly into your Uber Account. You’ll find this under ‘miscellaneous payments’.
- If you miss the Application window: Don’t worry, you’ll be reviewed in the following cycle.
- I’m not eligible, how can I change this?
Down Small - You may be ineligible for a certain reason, we’ve explained this below
- No EV on account: You need to an EV and start taking trips to claim
- Not enough trips: You need 150 trips in your EV (in the last 8 weeks) from the date you submit your claim.
- No EV Assistance to claim: Unfortunately, this means you have either; used up your EV Assistance, or you have not had EV Assistance to claim.
- I want to get a second hand EV, am I still able to use EV ClaimBack?
Down Small Yes! You will still need to meet the other eligibility criteria. We encourage you to find the best deal at the right price point, many drivers love their pre-owned EVs
