We encourage all riders and driver-partners to make a habit of checking the car for belongings before ending a trip, but sometimes items are left behind accidentally.
If you’ve found a lost item from a rider, here’s the steps to help return this item to them.
How to report a lost item
Create a report
If you notice an item left behind in your car, please let Uber know via the Uber Driver app. Simply go to the ‘Help’ section and choose ‘Trip Issues & Adjustments’, then ‘I found an Item. You can also do this online via the Help Centre.
Describe the item
From there, we’ll ask you to describe the lost item, upload a photo of the item, and opt in to sharing your number with the rider so they can contact you directly.
Connect with the rider
The rider should be in touch to arrange a way to return the lost item.
Known rider or trip
If you know which trip or rider the lost item came from, let us know so we can reach out to the rider on your behalf.
With your permission, we’ll share your phone number with the rider so they can contact you directly to arrange a mutually convenient time and place to arrange for the item to be returned.
If you prefer not to share your number with the rider, that’s fine too — we can coordinate for the lost item to be returned on your behalf. In the meantime, please keep the item in a safe place and in your possession, in case the rider makes contact.
Unknown rider or trip
If you’re unsure as to which trip or rider the lost item belongs to, let Uber know via the Uber Driver app. Simply go to the ‘Help’ section, tap ‘Trip Issues & Adjustments’ and ‘I found an item’, then ‘I found an item for an unknown trip.’ You can also do this online here.
We’ll try to reach out to potential riders who may have lost this particular item.
Please keep the item in a safe place, and in your possession, in case the rider gets in touch. If you still haven’t received a response within 48 hours please feel free to drop this lost item off at your local Greenlight Hub.
*Note: If the lost item is a wallet, and you haven’t been able to get in touch with the rider, please drop the wallet off at the nearest police station. The Greenlight Hub will not be able to accept lost wallets.
If a rider reports a missing item
If a rider reports an item is missing and believes it was left in your car, they may try to contact you directly by calling via the Uber app. Phone numbers are anonymised on the app, so keep an eye out.
Alternately, the rider may contact Uber Support and we’ll reach out to you on their behalf.
You can also phone the Uber team for assistance, 7 days a week from 10am - 6pm. If you drive with Uber in Australia, phone 1300 091 272. If you drive with Uber in New Zealand, call 09 888 0766.
